Without a doubt, growing revenue matters most. We say this for a couple of reasons; first there is a limit to how much costs can be reduced. Secondly, generating revenue, even if it’s not growing, causes expenses. The trick is to make the rate that revenue increases outpace the rate costs increase. Also, there are fewer ways to cut costs than ways to grow revenue. Ways to make cuts are to reduce the quantity, reduce the quality, or do without things. We could buy a cheaper, lower quality piece of equipment, for example. Some companies, especially at large organizations like corporations, lay off employees — they do without. Read more>>

For Pineapple Paw Prints, the most important piece for us to create a solid customer base by thinking outside the box and constantly creating new, creative product for our pup community. I think they both matter. Costs should be efficient – it’s important to know what is necessary versus what is “nice to have”. I have a forward looking plan for costs/spending over the years and although there are costs that you must spend to support your revenue-building, I want to see that taper off as a percentage of spend. Growing revenue is by far the main focal point as I grow. Understanding and keeping expenses under control is important., however, it isn’t a main driver in my decision model. Most if not all of the expenses that I make for my business are in the name of revenue growth. Investing in better technology, quality talent, effective marketing, and an overall luxury experience for my client, is what helps enable me to reach my target audience and envokes a feeling of trust in my company.
