We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Javon Roye a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Javon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Back in March of 2022, I was thinking about the recent loss of my grandmother. Not only did it remind that life is short but it convinced me that I have to achieve my dreams before more people around me pass away.
So, I made a plan. I gave myself two goals, a financial goal and to obtain a studio by January 2022. If I hit even one of these goals, I would go full time in my photography and cinematography business. While making these goals, I also realized that going full time in my business would be the only way I find happiness and fulfillment in life.
This was a huge risk for me because I just got an apartment with my girlfriend, a new car, a studio would be another bill, and going full time would mean I would no longer have a “consistent” income. Moreover, around November 2021 rumors started spreading that we may go back on a lockdown and the lockdown was very hard for people in my industry. However, come December 2021 I hit both goals and I said you know what? I’m doing it, I’m leaving my job.
I prayed for hours and days, out my two weeks in and my heart was pumping so fast that entire time. This was a huge risk but so worth it because I was prolong happiness and my fulfillment. These are two of the most important things in life and without them we would have so many regrets. Once I left my job, I hit the ground running and within a month I secured a way to make 10k a month from my business and that number was even high than my goal. After this, I now truly believe that if we dedicate ourselves to something and focus on the right things in life that we can achieve our dreams. It’s still a long journey to achieving mine but I am on the way!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Javon “Pasaro” Roye, the founder of JPR Create, LLC. I am a fashion, beauty, and business and branding photographer and cinematographer. My goal is to help people, businesses, and brands find personal and financial freedom through visual content.
I am passionate about using photography and cinematography as a vehicle to help people find freedom. Whether that is financial freedom or using art as an escape and self-expression I want to help you get there.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn going absolve and beyond for people all the time. Just because I am willing to go above and beyond for a cleint or person that doesn’t they would do the same for me.
So many times in business you may want to really help someone to the point where you may decrease the price of something or don’t charge for part of a service. While there are people who will be grateful there are some will try and take advantage of your kindness.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to help people achieve financial and personal freedom. That is what is driving me. Visual art is incredibly important for businesses today. I want to help small business become large and large businesses create honest stories that increase their sales and attract the people that need them.
Additionally, visual art has the ability to help people heal and learn more about themselves and that can help a person achieve happiness and that leads to personal freedom. Regardless of the trauma, I truly feel that art can with it.
Lastly, I love stories and at the heart of my journey is creating authentic and powerful stories in both photography and cinematography.
