We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Zara Taitt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Zara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Even though I have always had an interest in colors, art, texture, and curiosity about aesthetics it was solidified in high school. A class was offered that was an introduction to interior design and I loved it. At the end of that class, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in interior design.

Zara, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Zara Taitt, and I’m an interior designer for Jan Showers & Associates in Dallas, Texas. We specialize in high-end residential interior design. After graduating from North Texas University with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts, I joined Jan Showers & Associates as an assistant designer. During the next 16 years, I developed my skills and gained valuable knowledge about both the furniture industry and interior design. Our goal is to help our clients bring their visions to life for their homes. Using creative thinking, strategic planning, and staying up to date with what’s available in the design world, we strive to make sure our projects reflect our clients’ style while adding comfort and function to their homes. We take pride in understanding vintage furniture and can advise clients on how to incorporate the right elements to make a room interesting.
We strive to meet and exceed the expectations of our clients while making the design process enjoyable for them. It is our desire to succeed, our attention to detail, and our ability to design spaces that add meaning to our clients’ lives that result from our love for what we do. All of this is possible because of the relationships we develop with our vendors, coworkers, design partners, and, most importantly, the clients who trust us with their homes.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The entire project lifecycle can be rewarding — the best part is seeing it all come together during the installation. When it all comes together, it feels like Christmas morning. I love seeing a client’s reaction when they walk in for the first time. I also Additionally, working with our entire team is rewarding for me. As individuals, we bring a variety of perspectives and we work well together.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Make a donation to a local art charity or organization that uses design to make a difference, such as Dwell with Dignity. The organization transforms living spaces for families who otherwise would not have access to beautiful, well-designed areas.
Attend exhibitions in-person or virtually
