We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Veronica Tristan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Veronica below.
Veronica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your business and how did you resolve those issues?
I have been a solo aesthetics practitioner for five years and have recently run into a wonderful problem. I was totally overbooked! There was a 2 to 4 week wait for an appointment on most days. I decided it was time to expand. I hired my first employee, Karla, she was a newly licensed aesthetician who was both naturally skilled and eager to learn. I was excited and nervous to step into this new role.
We trained and worked together for about eight months until an expected two weeks off turned into a family emergency and an unexpected several months off for Karla. I lost my only employee, whom I was very dependent on. Within two weeks my schedule was overloaded. I was back to working on my days off, cutting down on breaks, over-booking appointments and chewing on some serious self doubt. Maybe this wasn’t the path for me? Maybe I should shrink back, go back to my solo practice, just worry about my own career?
I learned the smaller your business the more reliant you are on your employees. If you want to sustain a small business with a small team, you need to be sure your growth and expansion is something you are able to maintain short staffed for several months.
I am happy to report I did not give into the self-doubt. I took the opportunity to practice what I preach and put my personal faith and philosophies into action. Karla is back, I’m still working to grow the business and looking for some amazing new talent to add to our small team.”

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an aesthetician and permanent makeup artist and have been practicing for 7 years. At NVUS Brows & Skincare we provide everything from holistic treatments like indulgent relaxing GuaSha Facials to advanced skincare treatments like Microneedling, Dermaplaning and Chemical Peels. We do Lash and Brow work, female and male body waxing and Semi-Permanent Tattoo Makeup such as Lip Blushing, Ombre Brows and Microblading. Oh and btw, it’s pronounced ‘Envious’ Brows & Skincare.
Our prices are great and we provide top-notch skill and service. We are located inside of this really unique collective of wellness professionals called Color Up, which is the headquarters of Denver‘s premier organic and CBD infused skincare company. Clients love our facility and our cozy artsy vibe.
One things for sure and that is we always put people before profit. Honesty and integrity are some of my core values, and it’s at the core of how I run my business. I think true success can be achieved and maintained without cutting corners, resorting to shady business practices or treating people like cattle. When you are a guest of ours, you are not just another number or another sale, we genuinely care about the people we are treating and it comes across in our interactions.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I have built my entire business with Groupon, it is the only platform I use for marketing aside from my social media pages. It has been very consistent for me and keeps a steady stream of new clients coming into my business weekly. It works for me because I don’t have to come up with any money initially, I offer a discounted wax treatment to get clients in the door and groupon takes a cut of the discounted price for bringing the new client into the business. It’s a really great way to get exposure if you don’t have a store front or your location is kind of hidden.
If you decide to try Groupon I recommend a treatment or service that is less time consuming and has low overhead costs as your “groupon deal” so when Groupon takes their portion of your already discounted service, you have not lost too much time or revenue.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Social media, and referrals and reviews without a doubt have helped. Being consistent with posting before and after pictures, showcasing client success stories, sharing our favorite transformations. Or explaining the process and time it took to clear up an acne clients’ skin. Creating videos, requesting and sharing reviews. Other professionals and clients love to see these things..
