We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Clay Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Clay, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Created a social dog house where dogs are free to roam and play all day and night. Business looks more like a artsy night club for dogs than a kennel. We party here, we have have fun, and dogs are equal to humans here. We jam out after closing with the boarding canines. We are your not your typical dog daycare, being different and weird is what sets us apart.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Started working with dogs back in early 2006 after my DJ’ing gigs came to an end. Wanted to create something different then the ordinary, usual kennels that I have seen and managed. To me working with dogs is a ton better than having to deal with people on a daily basis.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
My huge pivot was when I was managing a dog kennel and realizing that I did not want to be stuck at a dead end job and answering to my boss, so I quit my job to start my own pet care business. It was extremely rough the first year trying to make ends meet, but it paid off in the long run and was able to open my own dog daycare and board.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I treat my clients as friends, which some have turned into great friendships. We communicate regularly through text, email, social media, and phone to keep in touch. It get’s me closer to their dogs trust and affection
