We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bianca Valdez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bianca below.
Bianca, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
When it comes to doctors, I don’t believe the importance of what we’re eating is discussed enough. While medicine has its place, there are symptoms we can relieve based on the foods we eat. Our bodies respond to the information we ingest i.e. food, music, news, etc.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Growing up, meat was an essential part of our meals and the center of our plates. The start of questioning myself eating meat was in 2016 when after eating chicken for lunch and having phlegm, I quietly asked myself, “I wonder why that is.” It wasn’t until a year later when I watched a documentary called Cowspiracy and started learning about Dr. Sebi’s philosophies that I really started paying attention to food in a different way, focusing on how it made me feel. Understanding that mucus holds onto bacteria, which can later lead to diseases and foods that create mucus are animal based products (i.e. meats, dairy), I started my plant-based journey. A few years into my journey, I wanted to share with others that plant-based foods can be deliciously good and good for you and so Koala Sprouts was born! The business has been a beautiful vessel to share with others that you don’t need meat to have a delicious meal and best of all, how you’ll feel afterwards will be light, nourished, and fulfilled! By offering plant-based recipes, we empower families to make delicious plant-based meals at home. Even if they’re not ready to make the full transition, they can open their minds to the opportunities. There is a connection with our minds and bodies and we are affected by the information we digest whether it’s the food we eat, music we listen to, or friends and conversations we have. When we feel good in our bodies, our minds are clear.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients has been participating in pop-up shops and in person events. There is a beautiful connection that happens when people get to know the person behind the brand who is passionate about their cause.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing our clientele has been through promoting our newsletter at the events we go to. Our informational newsletter goes into detail about different plant-based foods, their health benefits and how we can alleviate symptoms in our bodies by what we eat. This is vital because we host our newsletter on our site, which we own. While we also have a presence on social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, if those sites ever went away, Koala Sprouts has its own following via email subscribers.
