We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Barbie Termini a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Barbie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my Children’s Book , The Wonderful Way You Were Made.
I wrote this book because when I started IVF in 2019 and had my baby I felt that the IVF community was still underground and not very well acknowledged.
I searched Amazon and book stores for a children’s book about IVF because I wanted to have something as unique and special as my infertility/IVF journey to help me express to my daughter just how much I love her and how hard I worked to have her!
My searches came up empty and so I just decided one day I was going to write a book!
My hope and dream for this book is to give hope and love to another parent. I want them to know they’re not alone.

Barbie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a mom of two girls both conceived by IVF (Invitro fertilization), I’m a nurse and a children’s book author. in 2018 my husband and I found out we would not be able to conceive naturally and we would have to go through IVF. This was absolutely devastating because something that should be so natural and private now became a cold science experiment. In 2019 we traveled to Zlin, Czech Republic and did a round of IVF. This resulted in our oldest daughter. After my daughter was born I scoured Amazon and google for a children’s book about IVF. Although there were books out there none of them were what I was looking for that would help me express to my daughter what I went through and how much I love her. This is when I started writing my book. I would not consider myself a creative person but the words just came together like it was meant to be! 2021 I released my children’s book The Wonderful Way You Were Made.
My hope for my book and books to come is that if it can help just one person feel seen or heard and help them to connect with their child then my job is done. One thing that sets me apart is I only write about topics I have personal experience with.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The hope and prayer for my book and those to come is that it would be a blessing and an encouragement to anyone who reads it. My goal is to write about meaningful subjects that other children can truly relate to. With each book I send out I pray it opens the line of communication between the child and reader.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing and hearing others enjoying my book and how it brought them comfort to know they’re not alone.
