We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lacey Mitchell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lacey below.
Lacey, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
Live selling has become such a huge trend! Software companies have been able to integrate social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram with stores to enable store owners to sell products directly to consumer from their phones. It provides the consumers the ability to add items to a cart and checkout directly from a livestream video. There were $300 billion in sales in China last year alone with projections of $600 billion by 2023. In the U.S. there were $11 billion in livestream sales for 2021, and it’s projected to nearly double by 2023. Obviously there is huge potential here and we will start to see it more industries as it continues to become popular!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Lacey Mitchell and I am one of the co-owners of a product called Sugar Mama Shimmer a 100% edible glitter. My sister and I started this company during Covid because we were looking for something fun to bring joy to people while they were forced to be home. We came up with the idea of putting glitter in our drinks and the rest is history!
Sugar Mama Shimmer is 100% edible glitter. Made with all FDA-approved ingredients, our shimmer is specifically made for beverages to suspend longer than any other food-grade glitters on the market. It is textureless, flavorless and adds a colorful sparkle to your drink! We love it because you can add it to anything without it changing the composition of your beverage. Kids can enjoy it in their sodas, juices and water and adults can enjoy it in their alcoholic beverages like wine, champagne and cocktails. Not only is it great in beverages, but it’s also gorgeous on food. We enjoy it on cakes, ice cream, fruit and so much more. It is such a great addition to any occasion, big or small, as it brings a small detail but a whole lot of fun!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Once we realized we wanted to wholesale our product, we reached out to a few stores to talk to them about how it all worked. A store owner suggested we join a networking group that was specific to our industry. I remember thinking that the dues were quite expensive for us just starting out but we knew that it could potentially bring us a lot of business. We joined The Boutique Hub a very active networking group between wholesalers and boutique/gift store owners. With one single post in their Facebook group, we were able to cover our dues. This group has played a major role in our success and I would highly suggest that business owners find a group that would fit their industry!
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I think it is important to keep yourself in front of your customers without being annoying or pushy. We like to send out weekly emails, post daily to our social media and be very responsive to our customers. Staying consistent with all of these things has really benefited our business and kept our buyers coming back. In order to do this, it is important that you collect your customers information. Whether it’s on your website or in person, it is important you are able to turn these people into a warm lead. We also run a private Facebook group on our wholesale side that informs our buyers of new products, launches, etc. We try to keep all avenues of communication open to our customers because everyone prefers a different method.
