Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Just Nigel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Just, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Honestly, i quit a great paying full- time job to allow myself to focus on my craft, and work toward perfecting it. The moment felt surreal, because most of my coworkers at the time were older, and hadn’t seen the vision. It started to vibrate through me and when I noticed it, that’s when i knew i was surrounded by the wrong people. Though their were some supportive as well and still support me, the opportunities cane from me taking that leap of faith.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a singer / songwriter currently residing in Atlanta, GA. I’ve been recording and writing with other artists since 2012. Whether it was for placements, artist development, and my own personal projects. Getting into the industry has been an exciting journey, be it, it’s been me and my closest friends since day one. Whatever the highs and lows of it all, we experienced together so it never felt alone. From the mishandled shows, sketchy promotors, to music video awards and nominations, and soundtrack placements.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Growing up, whenever i listened to music, matter of fact, my perspective of music was perfection. Everything seemed perfect, the process, the vocals, the writing, everything. After recording for years, i realize perfection is only a dream. I quickly understood, sometimes you will hate a song, that so many others will love. Sometimes you’ll hit a note that irks you, that someone else can’t stop singing. That as long as you create from your heart, and have fun, you can touch the hearts of millions.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Through everything, the moment’s that feel the best, where i feel most rewarded with anything i create, is hearing my family, especially my nieces and nephews are singing my music. Word for word. If i can get the kids to enjoy music, that has messages and stories of love and light, then i feel like i’m setting the right example.
