Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to LAUREN EVANS. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
LAUREN, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I moved to Los Angeles without knowing anyone. No family. Not a soul. Person by person, I have carved out a sense of belonging here in the city, which I am very grateful for. When I look back, I am so proud of myself for being so willing to rip off the band aid of Canadian comfort and buy a one way ticket to LA. As I get older, I have more and more appreciation for this aspect of myself that uses courage as a compass in and of itself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a classically trained Actor, I approach each project with the intention to tell the Truth with a capital T, from the perspective of my character, without apology or judgement and maximum empathy. This translates into my life as Lauren, wherein I allow that sense of empathy to arise even when people behave in harmful ways towards me in relationships, whether they be personal or professional. Not because I’m a flawless Saint, but because I have activated this faculty of perception in me, to be understanding and accepting instead of judging and rejecting. I find this to be a more peaceful and productive way to navigate relationships of any nature.
Acting has made me a better person and being a better person has refined my work as an Actor, and will continue to, as long as I remain disciplined.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
The public library has so many resources for Actors! In LA, there are not only computers but specifically MAC laptops, and voice-over booths for one to record their auditions etc.
For union members, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation has both virtual and in person self tape assistance; readers as well as the option for them to light and shoot you. I went years without using any of this.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an Actor is manifold. The sense of family and connection that forms with cast and crew is absolutely magical. Saying goodbye never gets easier and when friendships develop beyond the production, I am truly grateful, which has definitely been the case as of late. I’ve met Actors and Directors who are at such similar phases in their life and career. The mutual sense of understanding, respect and support amongst us is inspiring and quite special. I am so utterly grateful. LA is only as isolating as you let it be. Acting’s greatest reward is the experience of being a part of something bigger than myself; literally and figuratively.
Also, I would be remiss if I did not touch on the inner reward which is how connected I feel to my Soul when I am acting. I’m sure that sounds weird to people who don’t make Art. Usually non-Actors think we are fake people or that we’re trying to escape ourselves. Nope. I experience it as entering my own personal portal to Zero Point. I then immerse myself into a particular aspect of consciousness which I, as Lauren, either draw on often or it might be totally new and solely for the character. Either way, I am activating my mind’s ability to watch myself instead of getting lost in the dream of being Lauren and my personality therein. Acting is more of a reminder to wake up than to stay asleep in the dream of Life on Earth.
