We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jamie Tedrick-Monroe a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jamie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
One of the biggest risks I have ever taken was deciding to be seen.
For years, my story was filled with things many people would rather hide. I survived addiction. I survived abuse. I survived prison. There was a time in my life when my identity was wrapped up in my mistakes, my trauma, and the labels other people placed on me. I spent years fighting my way back from a twelve year opiate addiction, rebuilding my life one day at a time while carrying the weight of judgment, shame, and fear.
When I finally reached a place of healing, I faced a different challenge. I had to decide whether I would stay hidden or allow people to see the real me.
Starting Safe2Talk2 and Chaotic Dyes was not just about launching businesses. It was about stepping into authenticity. Through Safe2Talk2, I began sharing my story and helping others navigate recovery, trauma, personal growth, and self discovery. Through Chaotic Dyes, I found a creative outlet that reflected who I am. The bright colors, the unpredictable patterns, and the beauty that emerges from chaos felt like a perfect representation of my own journey.
The risk was not financial. The real risk was emotional.
I risked people judging my past. I risked people dismissing my message because of where I had been. I risked sharing my truth and having no one listen. I risked putting my art, my voice, my ideas, and my heart into the world only to be ignored.
There were moments when I questioned whether anyone would care. There were moments when old fears resurfaced and reminded me how much easier it would be to stay quiet. But I kept showing up anyway.
What I discovered was that authenticity creates connection. The more honest I became about my journey, the more people opened up about theirs. The more I shared my art and my story, the more others felt permission to express themselves. What began as a risk became a mission.
Today, I have the privilege of helping others find hope, healing, and purpose. I have built communities, written books, created art, coached clients, and shared stages with people I never imagined I would meet. None of that would have happened if I had allowed fear to keep me hidden.
The risk of being seen changed everything.
It taught me that courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is showing up anyway. Sometimes the greatest risk is believing that your story matters and sharing it with the world. For me, that risk turned into purpose, connection, and a life far bigger than I ever thought possible.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jamie Tedrick-Monroe, and I am a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, life coach, Human Design coach, entrepreneur, author, artist, and the founder of Safe2Talk2 Consulting and Chaotic Dyes. More than any title, though, I am someone who believes that our greatest struggles can become our greatest purpose.
My journey into this work was anything but traditional. Before becoming a counselor and business owner, I spent years battling a twelve-year opiate addiction that began after being prescribed medication during cancer treatment. What started as a legitimate prescription eventually spiraled into addiction, incarceration, trauma, and the loss of nearly everything I knew. During that time, I experienced abuse, grief, shame, and circumstances that many people never imagine having to survive.
Recovery changed my life. It gave me the opportunity to rebuild from the ground up. While incarcerated, I began pursuing my education, earning degrees that would eventually lead me into the behavioral health field. Today, I hold multiple professional credentials and have dedicated my life to helping others navigate recovery, trauma, self-discovery, and personal transformation.
Safe2Talk2 Consulting was born from the realization that many people feel unheard, misunderstood, or judged when seeking help. Traditional approaches do not work for everyone because healing is not one-size-fits-all. Through coaching, education, mastermind groups, Human Design guidance, and community building, I help people gain clarity, understand themselves on a deeper level, and create meaningful change in their lives. My work focuses on helping individuals move beyond survival mode and begin living authentically.
Alongside Safe2Talk2, I created Chaotic Dyes, a tie-dye art business that became an unexpected extension of my healing journey. What started as a creative outlet quickly evolved into a business and a form of self-expression. The name itself reflects my story. Life can be chaotic, unpredictable, and messy, yet something beautiful can emerge from it. Every piece I create serves as a reminder that transformation is possible, even when life feels completely out of control.
What sets me apart is that I do not teach from theory alone. I teach from lived experience, professional training, and a deep understanding of what it means to rebuild a life after adversity. I have sat in both chairs. I have been the person asking for help, and I have become the person providing it. That perspective allows me to connect with people in a way that is authentic, relatable, and grounded in real-world experience.
I am most proud of the fact that I refused to let my past define my future. Statistics said I would fail. Circumstances suggested I would never recover. Yet today I am a counselor, business owner, author, artist, coach, and advocate helping others discover what is possible for their own lives.
The main thing I want people to know about me and my brands is that everything I create is rooted in authenticity. Whether I am coaching a client, writing a book, hosting a podcast, building a community, or creating a piece of art, my goal is the same: to help people recognize that they are more than their past, more than their trauma, and more than the labels placed upon them.
At the heart of everything I do is a simple message: healing is possible, transformation is real, and sometimes the most beautiful things in life emerge from the chaos we never thought we would survive.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
If I had to choose one story that illustrates resilience, it would be the journey of rebuilding my life after addiction and incarceration.
There was a time when my future looked completely different than it does today. What began as prescribed medication during cancer treatment eventually led to a twelve-year opiate addiction. Over time, that addiction cost me relationships, opportunities, freedom, and nearly my life. I found myself incarcerated, carrying the weight of trauma, shame, and the belief that society had already decided who I would be.
Many people assume resilience is about never falling. My experience taught me that resilience is about getting back up when every reason exists not to.
While incarcerated, I made a decision that would change the trajectory of my life. Instead of allowing my circumstances to define me, I began investing in my future. I pursued my education, worked on my recovery, and started rebuilding my sense of self. It wasn’t easy. Recovery required me to confront painful truths, take responsibility for my choices, and learn how to navigate life without the substances I had relied on for years.
When I was released, the challenges didn’t magically disappear. I still had to overcome stigma, rebuild trust, create a career, and learn how to thrive in a world that often judges people by their past mistakes. One step at a time, I earned degrees, obtained professional credentials, became a licensed counselor, started businesses, wrote books, and began helping others find hope in their own journeys.
Looking back, resilience wasn’t found in one defining moment. It was found in thousands of small decisions to keep moving forward when giving up would have been easier. Today, every person I help through Safe2Talk2 and every piece of art I create through Chaotic Dyes serves as a reminder that our past does not determine our future. Sometimes the greatest act of resilience is believing that your story isn’t over yet.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience the opposite way many people expect. I didn’t start with a marketing strategy, a large budget, or a perfectly curated brand. I started by sharing my story.
When I first began posting online, I talked openly about recovery, trauma, personal growth, entrepreneurship, and the lessons I was learning along the way. At times, it felt uncomfortable because vulnerability comes with risk. There is always the possibility that people won’t understand, won’t engage, or won’t care. What I discovered, however, is that authenticity creates connection.
As my businesses evolved, I continued sharing not only my successes but also my struggles, lessons, and real-life experiences. Through Safe2Talk2, I created spaces for meaningful conversations. Through Chaotic Dyes, I shared the creativity and healing that art brought into my life. Instead of focusing solely on selling products or services, I focused on building relationships and providing value.
My audience grew because people connected with the person behind the brand. They saw consistency, honesty, and a willingness to show up even when things weren’t perfect.
For those just starting on social media, my advice is simple: stop trying to be perfect and start being real. People connect with people, not polished marketing campaigns. Share your story. Share your expertise. Share your lessons learned. Focus on serving your audience rather than chasing followers.
Consistency matters more than perfection. Engagement matters more than algorithms. Relationships matter more than numbers.
Most importantly, don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. Every successful creator, entrepreneur, and business owner started with zero followers and zero engagement. The people who succeed are often the ones who keep showing up long after others have quit.
Build trust first. The audience will follow.
