Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bree Cosby. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Greetings, beloveds! I am Bree, also known as Honey & Iya Omiladé. It is an absolute pleasure to share my story with anyone who would love to hear it.
I never thought i’d own a business. When I was younger, I dreamt of being an astronaut, a scientist, and a marine biologist. Drawing, painting, and crafting were a hobby for me; an outlet. Although i’ve had people purchase my drawings & paintings over the years, I never had aspirations of an actual business coming from something I did naturally. That all changed when I had a very particular dream…
One night, I dreamt that I saw myself walking in the woods, and upon my ears were these big, bold, vibrant, beautiful sunflower earrings unlike anything I’d ever seen. The next morning, I sprung up, gathered supplies, and started crafting them from memory. I wore them out in public that same day, simply because they were GORGEOUS and I was proud of my creation. After a full day of compliments and people wanting to literally purchase them from my ears, I decided to start making them for others to purchase. I was elated to share my art with people who saw value in it, even before I did.
Thus, my baby, Sunflowers & Honeycombs, was birthed.
Sunflowers & Honeycombs is something that was not only started to craft unique, wearable art, but I also wanted to provide experiences that brought genuine joy to anyone I encountered. When first starting out, my only product/service was making accessories out of artificial flowers; the gift and ability to take a simple item and make it into a wearable masterpiece was such an amazing feeling. Now, I still have my original pieces (my top seller), and over the years I have added so many more products and even incorporated my spiritual practices into my business as well. Elevation happens seamlessly when you remove yourself and your ego, and you allow the Universe to move in your favor.
What makes me most proud about my business is all of the experiences i’ve had along the way. The people i’ve met. The connections i’ve made. I have encountered some beautiful souls along this journey, and my heart is so full whenever my art brings people joy. Within my first year of business, I started receiving and shipping orders internationally. Since then, I have shipped to Africa, the United Kingdom, Japan, India, and other beautiful places that I never fathomed my art would even reach.
My art is my own, and that’s what sets me apart from others. I created something that I had never seen before. Even over the years and noticing some duplicates; my art, is still my own. That can never be reproduced or replicated.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the people you meet along the way. It’s true when they say “your vibe attracts your tribe”. I have met so many kindred spirits along the way. Souls that feel like mine. People who are weird & whimsy like I am. Folks who see this world and this universe through the same lens as I do. That’s what makes this rewarding; knowing that there are free souls out there, who express themselves wholly, who dance to their own drum. It’s truly a beautiful thing to bare witness to.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
What a lot of people don’t realize is that a lot of the success of the creatives, simply can come by their craft being shared and spoken about. Whether it be word of mouth or a share on social media. That is now my business thrived. One person saw my art, they told someone else about it, who showed it to somebody else. The chain goes on.
Even if an artists’ work is out of your price range or not for you, a share/click/follow is free of charge and honestly does so much to drive revenue and get their work to the right audience & demographic.
Sharing will always be, indeed, caring.
