Patricia , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
I had been a Nutritionist, Chef and Wellness educator for many years with a few books published and then I had my daughter at 40. All of a sudden, surrounded by much younger mothers, I started to feel the unintended consequences of Ageism. I was at the height of my television career, running marathons on a regular basis and taking my daughter with me when I traveled for work and people around me were saying, “Aren’t you to old to run? to go out in workout clothes? Get published? So I started to research the reality of wellness as we age and it opened up a whole new world and trajectory for me and my career. As I age I can firsthand share the journey!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My moniker is “The Fitness Gourmet”
I teach classes and seminars on how to prepare healthy food easily, manage one’s fitness regime and live life to the fullest at any age. I have written five 5 books on nutrition, cooking, fitness, overall wellness and fulfilling life’s goals, with a special interest in enhancing the education of the general public, and providing accurate health information to today’s consumer.
I host a weekly YouTube show titled “It’s OK to be Old, A little tongue in cheek, yet its all about thoughtful acceptance of your age from health, wellness, lifestyle, nostalgia and of course stories about getting older and wiser.

What my business is now about is a series of seminars throughout the country, also titled, “Its OK to be Old” which are day long meet ups to empower older adults to embrace their age, and fight ageism worldwide.. Each one is devoted to building community local to the area where it is held, and showcase local talent, speakers and professionals so they can flourish in older adulthood.
In the hopes of being a Super Ager, living a long, healthy life, I am passionate about my own wellness habits. I completed 20 marathons and 115 half marathons, and after a hip replacement, I took on the sport of tower climbing, having conquered buildings all over the country. I now power walk, weight train, and do yoga. My personal life keeps me very busy as well, I am happily married with a grown daughter, and I am a lifelong knitter a book club junkie!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I think most people nowadays feel like they have to compete with the bombardment of information coming at us everyday and think how do I stand out?
For me it was becoming laser focused on what I do best, which is public speaking, teaching and listening to what it is that people need.
The further you expand away from your initial goals and inherent talent just to get more attention, the less effective you become in your field of expertise and your credibility will come into question.
When everything feels like its taking too long, or you feel that your work is going unnoticed, focus even more on your original intent.
Lastly, but most importantly, “Do not care what anyone thinks of you”! Thank will get you further than you ever imagined.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There are a million books out there on getting ahead and staying there, but I have found what works best for me is getting advice from people who have been there before me.
I never think twice about asking someone, even a very high profile individual for their wisdom on how they navigated the early stages of their career, the highs the lows, and what it takes to stay the course.
I really love reading memoirs and biographies of sports figures because so often they give up so much in life at a young age for one shot at the gold, but its sets them up for a well disciplined life that can take them very far.
