We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bee Rose a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Bee, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
I’ve had my company for eleven years now, and in the early days I was always looking for ways to show our customers how grateful I was for them. Because the cost of our ingredients goes up every year, and because we source only the highest quality ingredients from all over the world, sales were not really an option.
So I came up with something that felt more aligned with who we are: a season of gifting.
I had heard of bigger brands offering gifts with purchase, but I wanted ours to feel more personal and more special. So I started creating limited edition products that customers could receive with orders over a certain amount. Over time, it evolved into two seasons of gifting each year, with two tiers each season.
The first tier is always a surprise, and my goal is to truly delight them. The second tier is usually a cult-favorite face cream that we never sell and only make twice a year. When we run out, we run out, which has made it this beloved “in the know” event that our customers look forward to.
To me, that kind of personal touch is the heart of my company. I’m a real person, and I know my customers are real people too. I want them to feel seen, appreciated, and genuinely cared for. That connection is what H IS FOR LOVE is all about.

Bee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started this skincare line for myself. I wanted products that worked with the body’s own wisdom, using ingredients that truly nourish and protect. Pure, unadulterated, and thoughtfully sourced. Over time, I realized that natural, when done at the highest level, is the ultimate luxury.
I had already been living a very clean, organic lifestyle for years. I felt confident in the kitchen, so when I began making products, it felt like a natural extension of that. At the same time, I spent a couple of years quietly studying. I was deep in chemist forums, teaching myself formulation, learning herbalism, essential oils, and the microbiome of the soil, the skin, and the gut. I became completely absorbed in it. My standard for purity became everything.
This all happened before I ever thought about turning it into a business. What changed things was the response from people around me. My skin had transformed. I was glowing. Eating well and living clean had taken me far, but this level of skincare brought it all together. People started asking for it, then asking again, then insisting.
Fast forward eleven years, and we’ve built an incredibly loyal customer base. They are discerning, thoughtful people who appreciate the level of care and intention behind what we do. They understand how rare this level of sourcing and formulation really is, especially in such a saturated market.
Many brands claim to be clean. Very few hold the standards that we do. I’ve kept H small on purpose so I can maintain that integrity. It matters to me, and I feel a deep responsibility to the people who trust us with their skin.
At the end of the day, what we offer is a kind of freedom. When you give the body the right support, it knows exactly what to do. Skin can repair. Balance can return. And beyond the results, there is something deeper. The ritual of caring for yourself, of paying attention, of choosing nourishment. That changes how you relate to yourself.
I hope that people come to trust their bodies, to listen more closely, and to recognize how capable they already are. H is simply a tool to support that.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
Before I started my business, I didn’t have money to eat out. I was a young mom of two, and while I knew I was deeply drawn to this work, I had no clear way to begin.
Then, out of nowhere, someone gifted me five thousand dollars. They had no idea I had been trying to figure out how to start a business. It felt like a door opening.
I used every dollar with intention. Research and development, website design, packaging, ingredients. Every penny had a purpose. I started small, with a clear vision. Small batches, small bottles, just enough to begin.
For the first three and a half years, I put everything back into the business. I was disciplined. I knew what I was building and why it mattered.
What I learned is that you do not need seed funding to start something meaningful. You need clarity. You need care. You need to build real connection.
Build community. Lead with your heart. Offer a solution instead of trying to sell something.
The ‘why’ speaks to people more than the ‘what’ ever will.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Years ago, I went through the process of becoming EU compliant. It required extensive lab testing and tens of thousands of dollars. I was all in.
At the final hour, I heard from another founder that she was pulling her products out of that market because of the red tape and ongoing complications. I took a closer look and realized I would be facing the same thing. Even with formulas that are incredibly pure, the system still demands a level of compliance that can be overwhelming, especially for a small brand.
I decided to pivot. I let that investment go and chose to focus my energy on the market we already knew and served well.
At times, it’s painful to think about the money and effort that didn’t lead where I thought it would. But I wear many hats, and part of that responsibility is making hard calls when something no longer feels aligned.
In the end, things tend to work out the way they are meant to. The lesson for me has been to not hold too tightly. To stay flexible. To trust the process and keep moving forward.
