Maeve, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I love writing music genuinely from the bottom of my heart, and I was able to make half of a living off of it by never stopping! I never expected for my song Fuck Getting Better to get one million streams, and to this day it continues to surprise and amaze me
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have always been playing music as a form of escape, when the thoughts circulating in your head need to be released, many thoughts I felt that I was quite alone in I put into music. Music is my therapy, my release, and playing and singing is my way of distracting from all the bad things that go on in the world and in my head. I write music and release under the Moniker MaeThePirate
How did you build your audience on social media?
I think the most important thing is just being yourself! People value authenticity, especially as our lives get increasingly digital, online, and manufactured, people crave realism and authenticity.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Perfection is the enemy of the good, and that to practice doing something you must be okay with doing it badly. Every release, every promotional campaign, every tik tok video or instagram post you make, it does not have to be perfect at the start, and nor does your music. Practicing being okay and sitting with where you’re at gives you the ability to really hone in on your craft in the future
