Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sari Beall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Sari thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I’ve always had a plan for my life. Whether or not that plan panned out was up to the ever-changing universe, my choices, and how I reacted to them. When making this plan, I asked a lot of questions. I stayed curious about other people’s lifestyles and eventually formed mine. As much as I like to know exactly what is next, I wouldn’t be living the life I do today without a bit of risk! Forget the plan because what life has in store is better than before.
Most people would say studying nutrition, photography, and product design is a lot — why don’t I make a choice — I say it’s good to be multi-passionate! Being able to do whatever lights me up is a privilege that I don’t take for granted. Balancing creative careers in product design and photography can feel like too much sometimes, but I make it work. It’s worth the risk!
Life is all about being brave enough to take risks. Push your limits a little! It can be scary to dip your toes into the unknown, but I believe the best things in life are right outside your comfort zone.
Sari, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Sari Lane Beall. I’m a product designer and photographer based in Austin, TX. It’s known that I’m a positively motivated team player, aesthetic architect, and heartfelt wordsmith. I find it unique that my personal brand intertwines nicely with my professional one. Me having a creative career makes perfect sense!
I work corporate in product design and freelance in photography. My photography with portraits has allowed me to do sessions for big life moments such as engagements or graduation. For fun, I’ve dabbled in a few editorial-styled sessions! With product design, I help clients tell their stories through visual design and UX writing. My passion for combining strategy and creativity produces the best digital product.
All that said, I love to create; if it isn’t so obvious!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was you can’t have a stable career doing something creative. Growing up, I thought the only options for career stability were science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). Life has so much more to offer. I didn’t even know product design was a career until 2020! These days you can make a career doing just about anything. So don’t feel discouraged if you don’t know what to do with your life — inspiration will come, and there are many options.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Medium is an amazing resource for designers! I keep up with the latest design trends and gain inspiration when I read those articles.
