We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shahasia Harris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shahasia below.
Shahasia, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The greatest risk taken was opening a vegan mobile business that was self- funded. However, I took a chance on my skills and on myself and now here we are bigger and better than ever. It was a risk; because most businesses fail within the first 3-5 years and, we Definity have had our share of ups and downs. Overall, we are still persevering through trial and error and may many more years come to pass. It is hard work but I don’t regret any of it.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Black Baltimore Vegan is an independent female black owned mobile catering company operating in the inner city of Baltimore. We cater specialized menus for private and public events and operate a food trailer Monday – Friday from 9:00 am -4:00 pm providing an assortment of vegan breakfast sandwiches and lunch items. Originally starting at our home base ” The Baltimore Farmers Market” which operates from April – December every Sunday we post our tent to engage with the community. We also run our social media plate form for both Instagram and facebook @blackbaltimorevegan where you can find some of our vegan food tutorials we often share with the community. Our overall goal is to share awareness, engage with the community and be a positive influence. The owner ” Asia’ aka “Chef Foxy” wears multiple hats including creative director, chef, and head manager she is skilled in healthcare management and IT. She prides herself on being authentic and genuine with her work and her craft.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
The best advice about being successful in this field is you have to love what you do, learn from the mishaps, slow down if you need to but never give up. The small steps are just as important as the big ones.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I would choose the same profession if anything I would not mind adding graphic design skills. Graphic design skills are a great benefit when you need to create posters, flyers, and cool graphics for your social media or website
