We recently connected with Emmanuel Gallegos and have shared our conversation below.
Emmanuel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
When you start working in this industry you think the main goal is to create great commercials or great social media campaigns, but when you start becoming the point of contact, and start having to work directly with clients you realize this one thing. Customer service is the major key to keeping a client happy, and treating your clients with respect and breaking down the process of your work can build trust with a client and confidence in your work.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Emmanuel Gallegos and I have been in the commercial filmmaking industry for 7 years. After graduating from Valencia college in 2019 I jumped in the world of filmmaking, I was incredibly passionate and jumped on any project I could. After connecting and meeting amazing professionals I asked the most important question, how do I make this a career that pays? The answer I got back was clear and simple, niche down into a specific type of work, and present yourself as an expert in that field. But how do you become an expert? you talk to other experts, then you shadow their work, and then put to practice what you’ve learned until your confident enough to offer that service.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
A few years into my journey in video production, I reached a turning point where I had to decide what direction I truly wanted to pursue. My early experience was a mix of low-budget narrative work, vlogs, and personal projects like engagement videos. While those projects helped me build a strong foundation, I knew I wanted to elevate both the quality of my work and the level of clients I was working with.
At that point, I made a conscious decision to pivot. I began studying and researching professionals who were operating at the level I aspired to reach, analyzing their work, their client relationships, and how they positioned themselves in the market. That shift in mindset allowed me to transition from taking on any project to being more intentional about the type of work I pursued, ultimately leading me into higher-end commercial, corporate, and branded content production

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that I needed to be an expert in everything. Early on, I tried to handle every part of production myself, thinking that’s what made me valuable. Over time, I realized that mindset was actually limiting both my growth and the quality of my work.
The turning point came when I started collaborating with other specialists who brought skills I couldn’t replicate on my own. That experience shifted my perspective and allowed me to focus on my strengths while building a team that elevates the final product. I learned that great production isn’t about doing everything yourself, it’s about bringing the right people together
