We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Wesley Roberts a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Wesley, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Being funny has always been natural to me, so it wasn’t the learning part. It was dressing up the jokes to be more professional and more presentable to an audience that has come to see you. I would say, put it myself in position to be able to learn from veterans in my actual profession. What skills do I think were most essential? I would say of being observant and listening the obstacles that stood in the way was just not knowing who to who to be in contact with.

Wesley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Wizopcomedy I am a born and raised Fort Worth Comedien that does standup comedy and social media skits and videos. I’ve also been featured in different music videos as well as plays and commercial anything that pertains to laughing and entertainment, that’s what I do. No problems I solve for my clients is helping them get away from life with laughter basically healing their mood at that moment with laughter or replacing whatever they’re going through with laughter.. would set me apart from others I believe my ambition, my ambition to make people laugh like I feel like everybody has the same goal of story, but I really do truly love making people laugh, and sometimes heal myself while doing it as well. The main thing I want from comedy is to shine my life over the world more that’s more followers more fans or just you know being able to write for a veteran Comedien or get to work with a veteran Comedien to be able to share my gift with dear fan base that’s what I want from comedy and what I am most proud of being able to travel and making people laugh I would say producing my own shows and headline on shows that’s what I’m most proud of.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I first started, I was trying to find stage time and stage time was hard to find in the city, but there was a well-known comedian running an open mic. I showed up to the open mic early introduced myself to the actual Comedien and got on the list for the open mic and I actually paid money that I didn’t have to actually get into the establishment not knowing that comedians or performing comedians didn’t have to pay so I pay money I didn’t have and had to do spend more money inside cause they have a two item minimum and sat there the whole show wow different comedians came in late and the person the host that ran over my let these people go up things of that nature, but that is part of the industry that I’m in so I had to take that on the channel. I was probably one of my most defeating moments at that time and I vowed to myself that I will never let that happen again and so speak now speaking with you all now I have actually headline that club multiple times sorted out multiple times hosted for Big named comedians local comedians in done a lot of work since then so I would say that is probably one I’m almost proud of stories of resilience that I have so.

How did you build your audience on social media?
When I build my following on social media, I was already posting funny videos, but they weren’t consistent and when I when I started professionally, that’s when I start taking post videos seriously I was actually posting three times a week and getting in the habit of just continue to post and three times a week actually turned in to five times a week. Five times a week turned into posting every day posting every day turned into challenger myself to post for 30 days straight to build my actual audience and I only did I post my videos I sent them to my friends. I asked my friends to repost them my friends repost the videos asked them to comment. They comment on the videos and just people that they were acquaintances with would follow me from them reposting so I will continue to do that and I said I will reach out so basically just being consistent.
