We were lucky to catch up with Vu Lam recently and have shared our conversation below.
Vu, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
One of the questions I often get asked about is how did I come up with MacroMealz? From a early age I loved to cook. I remember purchasing my very first cook book in the 6th grade and it took off from there.
A few years later I fell in love with the fitness world. I loved being in shape and working out. Right out of high school I became a personal trainer for several big corporate gyms and immediately found what I was passionate about. I was passionate about helping others achieve their goals and feel better and confident about themselves.
Around the same time as I was working for the gym I was meal prepping for myself and one of my other coworkers asked me to meal prep for him as well and after that it slowly took off.
I knew I wanted to help people in a larger scale than just personal training so I came up with the idea of Macromealz. I knew that nutrition played the biggest role in fitness.
I didn’t want to be just like any ordinary meal prep service I wanted my meal preps to actually be flavorful and different. My niche is what has helped separate Macromealz from all of the other competition.

Vu, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For the first time readers my name is Vu Lam. I am the chef and owner of Macromealz, a meal prep company based in the Houston area.
I got into this business because of the love of cooking and fitness. I wanted to help more people on a larger scale.
One of the things I am most proud about is that Macromealz has been established for almost 6 years and I have continued to grow each year. I have the absolute best support from my customers and friend and feel like I am the luckiest man alive.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Macromealz originally just started as a side hustle. I just did it on the side for some extra income but after covid hit it really took off.
It took off so much that it became my full time job in the span of 3 months and I never looked back after that.
I never in my life thought that Macromealz would grow to the level that it is now and I am still in constant awe each year with the growth.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I’m a true believer in your product speaks for itself. Almost all of my clients have been from word of mouth from current or past clients.
Word of mouth has been the biggest contributor to my growth which is amazing.
People are more reluctant to try my meal preps if they hear how good it is from their family or friends as opposed to me advertising it.
One thing about me is I hardly ever pay for advertising or pay people to advertise for me. I have had several offers from fitness and social media influencers to promote Macromealz but I have refused them because Macromealz has been doing great on its own.
