We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Deidre Harris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Deidre, thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
The Risk of Obedience
I didn’t take a risk to be trendy.
I didn’t take a risk to compete.
I took a risk to obey.
There’s a difference.
When God gives you something unconventional, especially in Christian spaces, people will challenge it.
And that’s biblical.
📖 Isaiah 55:8–9
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways…”
Sometimes God will give you a blueprint that doesn’t fit religious tradition.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Psi Omega Chi Sisterhood Sorority is a place where women are covered, cultivated,
and called higher.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I Had to Unlearn Isolation
Isolation can feel holy.
Especially when you’ve been:
Misunderstood
Betrayed
Dismissed
The strong one
The leader with no one leading you
Isolation feels safe.
But it’s not always God.
📖 Genesis 2:18
“It is not good that the man should be alone…”
If it wasn’t good in Eden,
it’s not good now.
Sometimes isolation isn’t protection
it’s a trauma response.
And strong women are really good at surviving alone.
I Didn’t Have What I Needed
This is where I Founder my power is.
I didn’t have:
A coach pushing me
A mentor correcting me
A sister celebrating me
A safe place to process
So I became self-sufficient.
But self-sufficient is not the same as supported.
There’s a difference.
Self-sufficient says: “I’ll carry it.”
Supported says: “We’ll carry it.”
📖 Ecclesiastes 4:9–10
“Two are better than one… For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow…”
You can’t lift yourself when you’re the one falling.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My personality is what built my reputation, however my character sustains it, my organization skills is what keeps it flowing, and my girly events is what keep my sisters apart.
Not only that, this community of women is a safe place for us to be women.
