Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sarah, appreciate you joining us today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
I think that showing customers that you appreciate them is something that is the culmination of small consistent actions over grand gestures.
When brands take time to think how you will use their product and then respond accordingly; I believe that’s the greatest form of appreciation. I’ve purchased handmade dresses before, and the attention to detail ensuring that my measurements were correct and the style would fit me the way I wanted it to, made me feel appreciated.
In a similar way, in our shop whether with big customizations, small requests or just answering all questions with kindness and clarity, we strive to show our customers they are important to us by listening and doing our part so that they get exactly what they desire.

Sarah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Honestly, our story began with someone else’s creative and generous spirit.
We can still remember when as little girls our mother taught herself the art of crocheting. With a book, determination, and an inquisitive spirit, she not only learned a new skill but she immediately shared this wonderful skill with my sister and I. We were right there learning with her.
Our father, who is also very creative but more business-minded, would always encourage us to think bigger; to use our imagination, knowing that we could achieve anything with hard work, determination, and the right attitude.
Thus it did not take long for inspiration to captivate us. We began with the basics, and in time our love and ability gradually matured into what we do today.
Since starting Renee Originals 1, we have continued the self-taught tradition. We have now included knitting in our arsenal while constantly looking for ways to learn and improve.
We adore making use of time-loved skills to create handmade items which are the perfect combination of classic and modern.
Our Inspiration:
For us a classic style is timeless; it doesn’t become outdated with changing trends and it always flatters. I often tell my sister , ‘we have to keep working on this until it makes you feel something’.
To that end we draw inspiration from classic textural ideas like lace and petals, updating them for the modern romantic. Being from Cleveland, Ohio we know cold, so the items we make also have to be cute and cozy for when you’re bundled tight.
Think cityscapes and black and white movies… that’s us.
We love making handmade accessories that you will keep for a long time.

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
We currently have a shop on Etsy and have found that it helps with a lot of the questions that can arise when navigating the challenges of owning your own business.
Etsy, provides a lot of informative tools and resources allowing one to stay up to date with changes in the world market, and a well known name inspires consumer confidence.
That being said, of course there is a trade off; a little less individual control, sharing profits and still a lot of work needed to be seen and maintain visibility.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I think paying attention to details and a focus on customer service have aided us in creating a reputation that makes people want to tell others about their experiences.
We strive to bring the human aspect back into transactions. Your not just buying a hat, a scarf, a pair of slippers; your getting something that had time and attention dedicated to it. Your getting something that is unique and made just for you.
