We recently connected with Elizabeth Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth , thanks for joining us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
My best investment is definitely my equipment. I’ve learned you have to really invest in yourself and take a risk to accomplish big goals. It’s was a risk buying cameras and lens and all the bells and whistles but it has paid off and I am extremely grateful to be able to do this full time.

Elizabeth , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a Texas-based family and portrait photographer with a heart for connection, storytelling, and creating images that feel as real and meaningful as the people in them. Photography found me during a season of life when time felt fleeting — raising a growing family, watching children change overnight, and realizing just how powerful it is to freeze moments that would otherwise pass us by. What started as a creative outlet quickly became a calling: to help families see the beauty in their everyday love, chaos, and connection.
I specialize in family, senior, and lifestyle portraiture, offering both studio and outdoor sessions throughout the DFW area. My work is rooted in natural light, soft tones, and an organic, emotive style that leans more toward storytelling than stiff posing. I create an experience that feels relaxed and welcoming — especially for parents who worry their kids won’t “behave” or clients who feel awkward in front of the camera. My job isn’t just to take photos; it’s to create a space where people feel comfortable enough to be themselves. That’s where the magic lives.
What sets me apart is my deep understanding of the season my clients are in — because I’m living it too. As a mom of four, I know how fast childhood moves, how rare it is to get everyone in the frame, and how meaningful these images become with time. I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me to document their stories honestly and beautifully, and of the relationships that grow long after the session ends. I want potential clients to know that when they work with me, they’re not just booking a photographer — they’re investing in memories, legacy, and images that will matter more with every passing year.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
One of the hardest things for non-creatives to understand is that creativity isn’t just a skill, it’s an emotional investment. What I do isn’t clock-in, clock-out work. It lives in my head, my heart, and my everyday life. I don’t just show up for a session, press a button, and move on. Every image carries intention, instinct, experience, and a piece of me.
There’s also a misconception that the visible part of the work is the work. In reality, the session is just a small fraction of the process. The planning, emotional labor, problem-solving, editing, storytelling, and constant self-growth all happen quietly behind the scenes. Add in self-doubt, comparison, and the pressure to stay inspired while still running a business, and it becomes a balancing act that’s hard to explain unless you’re living it.
What I wish more people understood is that creatives often measure success differently. It’s not always about volume or speed; it’s about meaning. It’s about creating something honest, something that lasts, something that matters to someone years from now. And while the journey can be deeply fulfilling, it can also be vulnerable and exhausting. But we keep showing up because we believe in the power of what we create, and because telling stories, especially human ones, is worth the effort.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to create work that feels meaningful and lasting — not just beautiful in the moment, but valuable over time. I’m driven by the idea that photographs can become part of a family’s history, something that grows more important as life changes. My mission is to document real connection and emotion in a way that feels honest, approachable, and true to the people in front of my camera.
On a deeper level, I want my work to remind people that their everyday moments matter. You don’t have to be perfect, polished, or have it all together to be worthy of being documented. If my images help someone slow down, feel seen, or hold onto a season of life they never want to forget, then I’ve done what I set out to do.
