We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brooke Jennings a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brooke, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later?
I do wish I started photography earlier, but I don’t think I would’ve been mature enough to make the decisions I needed to for my profession. All my life I was a beach volleyball player and nutrition gal. Studied nutrition and played beach volleyball in college, then coached as a job. Soon after two years I stopped and got into photography. It was the best decision of my life. I wouldn’t change anything about my experience or choices in the past. I believe that God had this plan for me all along and was just waiting for the right time to reveal it.

Brooke, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a photographer in the music industry. I shoot anything from shows, social media content, live show videos + photos, film, super 8 film videos, and more.
What I think sets me apart from others is that I work with many different genres of artists. One of my strengths is being able to keep my style of photo/video but I can tap into what the artist is feeling and how I can express their project.
I most proud of how much I have grown in the past year. I have only been working in the music industry for two years and just feel like I have truly made some great friends and business partners that I can lean on. The music industry is full of so many different kinds of creatives that are so accepting and inspiring to be around.
One of the main takeaways from my brand and work I hope viewers feel is genuineness. I edit my photos and videos very minimally to make the fan feel like they were at the show or they can look back on this memory and remember exactly how it felt.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
For social media I just started to post whatever I felt like at the beginning. I only had a point and shoot film camera. So I gathered all of my photos I took for memories of shows and started with that. Since then I constantly reach out to other creatives about work or building a friendship because of how much they inspire me. I think the community I have built is strong and so supportive, which makes me love what I do even more.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal as of now is to just keep creating and not second guessing myself. With social media being such a big part of the industry it’s hard to not compare your creative mind to others. But at the end of the day you just have to believe in yourself and always put in your full efforts.
