Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Le’mia Marie Mindingall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Le’Mia Marie, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Some individuals are born with talents and gifts and simply choose to become better at their crafts. As far as modeling goes I feel as if I noticed my photogenic skills at a young age and had model coaches sharpen my abilities. I studied the “greats” (Naomi and Tyra) once I realized my intentions to make modeling a long-term career. Skills such as adaptability, listening, and coordination were most essential and the only thing that stood in the way of learning more was my own level of confidence.
Le’Mia Marie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My initial love for art and music began in middle school where I played the Tuba. Yes, little old me chose the largest instrument in the band. However, the grounded and soulful sound continues my favorite and granted me a start to a lifelong journey in the arts. I continued to a performing arts high school pursuing dance, which led me to acquire a Bachelor of Performing Arts in Dance. Since University, I’ve not only surrounded myself with artists and creators but have continued to learn, admire, and be inspired by artists and their art. As I actively establish myself as an Actor, Model, and DJ I will always use the discipline taught to me as a movement artist. I see the importance of exploration and as a courageous spirit, I try to experience what is new and possibly scary. My friends and close counterparts often offer their knowledge and encouragement as I dually intend to share my light, talents, and ideas with the world. So far I have been featured as a model in several commercial campaigns, mainstream music videos, and fashion shows in NYC. While my career in the arts develops I also offer Pet Care services to furry friends of all shapes and sizes. It’s a joy to help pet parents as they travel or take care of their daily duties. It’s an absolute delight to spend time with pets that enjoy my company as much as I do theirs.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is community. As creatives, we aim to work at our highest potential, this often leads to endless collaborations that turn into friendships, that can turn into having a self made family.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I believe that every human is a creative. Some may not deem themselves as such but it is in our nature to create, problem-solve, and be artists. Of course, art is subjective, and whether one enjoys allowing their mind to explore and use their resources to make something could be another conversation, I digress. It seems to me that some individuals who are not currently pursuing a career in the arts may not understand that our “work” is continuous and goes on day in and day out. Some are used to getting off of work and having downtime. I wish there was more understanding when a creative must hibernate to work on a project. In some cases, we simply need the mental and emotional space to allow our mind to wonder and imagine because the cultivation of creative works starts first in the mind. We also can be inspired at any given time and will need to focus at any given hour to tend to our craft. We don’t intend to neglect and we haven’t forgotten about you, we are simply “working”.
