Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Parkey
Hi Rebecca, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I started my private practice in September of 2020, I had been a therapist for fifteen years. I had just moved to Las Vegas and decided, based on the mental health needs in area, that it was time to start my dream of a private practice. From there I was one of the only therapists to allow in person clients. As I grew my business I knew I wanted to have a group practice, so I continued to hire. I started with a student therapist, and after meeting with a business coach, I leapt into hiring two therapists and a psychiatric nurse practitioner for medication evaluation. We continued to grow and after year two I moved my practice into an office setting, hiring administrative staff, and office manager, and began taking insurance. At this point today I am working on building a new business for first responders, health care first responders, and veterans for trauma informed care.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There are always obstacles that come along with building a business. There are staff that do not work out and you have to let go, which is always a difficult thing because you want everyone to succeed. There are times that you lose money because you make bad calls, but you don’t know what you don’t know. Mostly, you have to look at everything you do as a growth opportunity and a learning experience.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Parkey Group/Unburdened 6?
The business that I originally opened, The Parkey Group, is a mental health group private practice. I am the owner of the practice. I have been open since 2020. My practice offers individual, family, couples, and child play therapy, as well as psychiatric services for children and adults. We have student therapists, post graduate intern therapists, licensed therapists, and psychiatric staff. Our administrative staff runs the office and we take most insurances in Nevada except for Medicaid and Medicare. We have a passion for serving the community and love what we do.
Unburdened 6 is a new and soon to come Intensive Outpatient Therapy clinic for first responders of all types, as well as military and veterans. Its primary focus is on trauma treatment that focuses on both the individual as well as the family. It will have health care options, nutrition classes, mental health treatment, and other fantastic treatment options.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Some of the most important qualities that is important to success is the ability to adapt, and embrace change. Without that characteristic failure is inevitable and growth is impossible. In business, you must be able to adapt to change and embrace it. Things are constantly moving and there are always a lot of moving pieces to a business. If you aren’t able to change and adapt, you will surly fail.
