Today we’d like to introduce you to Vicki Harrison And Brigitte Carucci
Vicki Harrison And Brigitte Carucci, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Vicki: We started a friendship that grew into a business, which was guided by our abilities to connect with business owners and our love to learn their stories. Our first venture together was a reimagined diner placemat followed by advertising coasters and coffee sleeves and then our town guide magazines. We’re big believers in figuring out a system that works and then employing it again and again to great effect. We have devised a tried-and-true method to launch a series of local magazines for 7 different towns in our community—we could write a handbook about each step that’s required. Lately we’ve determined that we really love pulling off big festivals, and are launching 3 this year. The first new festival we launched this year was a Garlic Festival, new for our town, and we lost count at 3500 attendees. It will be back next year, and we already have tweaks for it. I don’t want to say we get bored with doing the same thing, but we definitely like to inject new thoughts and ideas into everything we do.
Brigitte: We routinely look for holes in the marketplace and the community and dream up creative ways to fill them. None of the events we’ve done this year have existed in our area, so we’re always on the lookout for new events and experiences we can bring to our county to join the community with small business owners.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Vicki: Our business has definitely had some ups and downs. Worldwide pandemic aside, we definitely had to grow into what we are today. Each time we have pivoted our business it was in response to the market—what we see is gaining traction and what just isn’t. The first time we made major changes was difficult—but we’ve learned how valuable it can be to trim out the things that aren’t working and try something new. At this point, just when you think you’ve got us figured out, we have something new coming down the pike!
As you know, we’re big fans of Two Girls Media. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Through many instances of volunteering in their community, Brigitte Carucci and Vicki Harrison soon realized that their backgrounds and skill sets were a great complement to each other and Two Girls Media was born. A boutique marketing agency operated out of their trunks and weekly Dunkin’ Donuts meet ups for the first year soon grew to a large office and public meeting space in downtown Denville. They specialize in creating products and services to connect their clients with the neighborhoods they serve.
The pandemic has pushed them to pivot their plan, and that of their clients, to continue to think outside the box and implement new ways to reach others. Their work/play life is in balance as they work around the clock but also play hooky for adventure days and IG domination. Their love language is coffee, and they want nothing more than to help their fellow bad ass entrepreneurs succeed. As they are fond of saying, “teamwork makes the dream work.” There is room for everyone at the top, and Two Girls Media helps their clients get there.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Vicki: Follow your passion. Find an organization or person that does something you admire and seek them out. Go and do the things you love and find likeminded people. The magic of networking is that the more positive interactions you have with people in any aspect of life, not just “work,” the more connections you’ll make.
Brigitte: Networking feels like exercise does sometimes… you might dread doing it but you’re always happy once you’re done! We’ve found surrounding ourselves with likeminded people breeds more inspiration for our own business and we always leave with more creative directions we can go in.
