How I Scaled Up: A Realistic Journey of Growth Scaling up a business is often portrayed as an instant success—some magical formula that leads to 6-figure months. But the reality is far more grounded. As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Scaling doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a long, sometimes difficult process that requires dedication, hard work, and a solid foundation. Before scaling, I first took a deep look at the foundation of my business. The question I asked myself was: Do I have the systems, structures, and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) in place to support growth? The journey into business and growth alike for me began once I had to make the move from Atlanta, Georgia to Houston, Texas at the end of 2019 as a recent college graduate, Bachelor of Science-Mechanical Engineering, from the Georgia Institute of Technology. By January 2020, upon making it to Houston, Texas for the company I worked for, Rockwell Automation, at the time as a Software and Controls Technical Consultant in the Manufacturing space, I knew I wanted a house of my own, for more stability, and sense of settlement that I was not used to in my past. As I think back to when our business was just an idea, it’s crazy to think where we are now and where we hope to be in the future! The company started off as an idea and a website, gradually adding products before going live. Our Instagram account was created and we were ready to hit the ground running. In the beginning, we only had a few Pokémon and football cards. We went live with our online business announcements when we had a decent amount on our website. After a slow start, we began selling singles on Ebay and TCG’s website. We had started making some sales on eBay, which was a big hit. As our earnings grew, we started purchasing bigger items like trainer boxes and packs. When we were confident that we had enough, we decided to sign up for our first outdoor market! It was a cold December afternoon, but we had so much fun! We were really excited to be there and share our passion with everyone who visited our booth! After that event we decided to start making Pokémon related crafts like stickers and coasters made with resin. We grew our inventory even more and added more things to our website and Ebay store and we kept doing outdoor events! Read more>>

In its infancy, my couples counseling practice was slow and quiet. Months would often go by without any inquiries for prospective clients. I decided to take advantage of a connection I had made with a wedding planner whose kids went to the same school as mine. I thought I could attract more couples counseling work if I also offered wedding officiating and pre-marital counseling. Many years prior when I was a yoga teacher, some longtime yoga students asked me to officiate their wedding, and I always remembered how joyful those experiences were. Read more>>
