How I Scaled Up: A Realistic Journey of Growth
Scaling up a business is often portrayed as an instant success—some magical formula that leads to 6-figure months. But the reality is far more grounded. As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Scaling doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a long, sometimes difficult process that requires dedication, hard work, and a solid foundation.
Before scaling, I first took a deep look at the foundation of my business. The question I asked myself was: Do I have the systems, structures, and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) in place to support growth? Without that, scaling would have been like building on sand—unstable and unsustainable.
I started by focusing on creating systems that would automate and streamline as many processes as possible. This included everything from project management to client communication to internal workflows. Once I had these systems in place, it became easier to scale without feeling overwhelmed. The key was ensuring that the foundation could support future growth without adding chaos to my operations.
But scaling doesn’t just mean growing for the sake of it. As tempting as it might be to follow trends and promises of rapid growth, I remained mindful of what made sense for my business and values. I knew I had to grow slowly and intentionally, ensuring that each step aligned with the core values of my business and its mission. There’s no point in growing too fast if that growth doesn’t match who you are or where you want your business to go.
The strategies and tactics I used to scale were rooted in this intention: sustainable growth that made sense for my business. One mistake I made early on was rushing the process and thinking that more clients automatically meant more revenue. However, I quickly realized that it’s not about how many clients you have, but how well you serve them. So, I shifted my focus to refining my offerings, providing more value to my existing clients, and ensuring that my team had the resources to deliver quality work.
Scaling is also about making smart decisions and learning from the obstacles along the way. There were moments when I doubted my ability to keep up with the demand, and times when I had to make tough calls—like raising my prices, which I was initially hesitant to do. But these moments taught me that scaling is about balance: balancing growth with capacity, opportunity with stability, and speed with sustainability.
So, when I hear about rapid, overnight successes, I’m reminded that real growth comes from consistently showing up, staying true to your values, and being strategic about the decisions you make. Scaling is a journey, and it’s a lot more about slow and steady than it is about magic formulas. The key is to always be mindful, always align your growth with your business’s values, and to ensure that your systems and structure are in place before you scale.
In the end, it’s not just about growing your business—it’s about growing it in a way that’s sustainable, values-driven, and aligned with who you are as a business owner.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
About Creative Dynamics Virtual Services: Empowering Businesses, One Step at a Time
Hi, I’m Brittney Ashley, founder of Creative Dynamics. I started this business to bridge the gap between hardworking moms and the ability to work from home, on their terms. My journey into this industry wasn’t straightforward; it was shaped by years of experience, trial and error, and a deep understanding of balancing life and work as a mompreneur.
Before Creative Dynamics, I spent years honing my skills in marketing, business strategy, and coaching. The idea behind Creative Dynamics came from my own need for flexible work as a mom and the realization that there was a gap in the market for skilled, reliable remote workers. This led to the birth of Creative Dynamics, where we connect dependable professionals with businesses in need of virtual assistance, business coaching, and strategic support.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the most defining moments of resilience in my journey happened early in my entrepreneurial career when I faced the challenge of balancing my business with the responsibilities of motherhood, all while dealing with the struggles of ADHD and dyslexia. At times, it felt like I was fighting an uphill battle—juggling client demands, managing projects, and maintaining the high standards I set for myself, all while navigating the chaos of family life.
There was a point when I considered stepping back because the pressure felt overwhelming. But then, I remembered why I started in the first place: to create a business that supported my values, allowed me to work from home, and empowered others, especially moms, to build careers that aligned with their lives.
Instead of stepping back, I chose to build a system that worked for me, not against me. I leaned into my strengths, embraced the tools that helped me stay organized, and built a team that understood my needs and the flexibility required. With each challenge I overcame, I learned to trust in my ability to adapt and pivot when things didn’t go as planned.
That resilience didn’t just come from pushing through the hard times, but also from learning to be kinder to myself, recognizing that failure wasn’t the end but just another step in the learning process. Today, I see that the challenges I faced were the very things that helped shape my business—helping other women navigate the balance between work and life and empowering them to overcome their own obstacles.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the hardest lessons I had to unlearn was the belief that everyone would want to be part of my community. I’ve always believed in the power of community—where we all support, lift each other up and thrive together in business. It’s something deeply rooted in my heritage, as an Indigenous person, where the idea of community and collective success is central. However, I had to accept that not everyone shares this mindset, and that’s okay.
The “Let Them” theory (By Mel Robbins) was a big turning point for me. It taught me to let people be who they are, rather than trying to convince or force them to align with my vision. I started to embrace the idea that my community should be built with people who genuinely share my values and business ethics. Over time, I focused on curating relationships that felt authentic and aligned with my vision, rather than trying to be all things to all people.
Today, my business is not just about making a profit—it’s about fostering a community where we can grow together, support one another, and build meaningful connections. It’s about finding the right people who resonate with my values and contributing to a space where we can all thrive.
