One of the most powerful things about being a business owner is the ability to create a work environment according to your own principles. So many of us have worked within a company or organization and been disappointed by the way things were run, the way team members were treated. So, we wanted to ask some fantastic business owners and operators how they’ve gone about creating a more inclusive workplace.

From the beginning, it was our mission to make bxbbly as inclusive as possible. Sam and I have so many incredible people in our lives that come from so many different and unique backgrounds. Something we want to get across as much as possible is that our celebrations are for EVERYONE. We have tried hard to show that in our styled shoots and businesses we support and work with. We also do our best to give back to the community, most recently donating a photo backdrop for a local summer camp for kids with type 1 diabetes that I volunteer at during the summers. Start with the concept. We can train the job but we can’t train a personality. Too many times companies want work history, ethnicity, background check, etc. At Rubber City Reuse we throw all of that out the window and have found it does nothing more than waste our time and resources. Our interview consists of us asking ourselves the question “what did the candidate do to find and reach us and how did they do it”. Many people may believe that one of our biggest weaknesses as humans is our ability to quickly and easily spot the differences that divide us. In reality, our biggest weakness is that we do not understand those differences. It is very normal to have differences; without them, innovation is impossible. However, in the context of gender equity in the finance space, it’s extremely important to understand that these natural biological differences are the key to discovering our full potential as a society driven by finance.
