We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ant Devon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ant below.
Ant , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I was working for a company partnered with Wells Fargo back in 2019. The job paid okay, but I wasn’t truly fulfilled. I was wearing a mask to an extent. I couldn’t be my true self. One day at work I heard a voice tell me “quit this job, or remove you myself from it myself”. I ignored it, but I kid you not, a few weeks later I was let go. It made me realize that my purpose was bigger than working a job just to pay bills and survive. I knew that it was a sign to focus on building my social media through making music and creating content. I didn’t think about getting another job. For the next 2 years I practiced my singing every single day for hours, while building my online presence. I was able to eventually consult other artists as well under my own company Keep Pushin’ Entertainment.

Ant , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I love music, especially R&B. I love to entertain. Ever since I could remember I was listening to music that was sung from the heart and soul of the artists. When I was 5 years old I remember distinctly trying to mimic singer Jon B because I say his music video for “They Don’t Know” on TV. Singer Sammie was who really inspired me to sing, but I didn’t have the confidence as a child to put myself out there. When Soulja Boy came out in 2007. It opened my eyes to the possibilities. I learned how to produce, and record myself because of Soulja. Uploading music was not normal at the time, but me and my Twin brother Boomsound Lavelle were ahead of the curve. It wouldn’t be until 2015 that I started taking my singing more seriously. I would record myself singing every day, and even though I didn’t sound that good at the time, I stayed consistent with it, and I started seeing results. This alone changed my life. It let me know that I can do anything if I believe in myself and stay with it no matter what. I did a distribution deal with Bentley Records in 2018 after unloading my music for a few years and creating content. That same year I was blessed to get a song with Soulja Boy which the label prioritized. This song helped my grow my brand awareness. I continued to release music and upload song covers of some of my favorite artist. By 2021 Ne-Yo heard a few of my song covers. Donell Jones, Case, and Sammie are some other artists that I’ve been blessed to meet and talk to. They’ve showed my music love as well. By 2022 I was an A&R for Bentley Records, and helped other artists get deals with the company. That same year I discovered a handful of musical artists on social media to guide, consult, and market through my own company Keep Pushin’ Entertainment. I provide vital information to them that will help further their careers, as well as authentic promotion that will break through the algorithm and get them seen and heard. I’ve also recently partnered with my twin brother’s company Boomsoundfactory to give artists even more opportunities like internet radio play, and live shows. I performed at the BET Awards this year, which was a dream come true. I’m proud of that. Singing and performing is what I love to share with the world. I’m an artist first. Never give up on yourself. If you see it in your mind, then know it’s possible to achieve.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
God is the driving force for me. I wouldn’t have discovered my gifts without God.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I created content that I liked, that’s how I was able to stay consistent with it and build an audience over time. Consistency is the key. Eventually the algorithm will reward you. Don’t worry about views or money. Do it because you love it.
