Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Stewart
Hi Joshua, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi, I’m Joshua Stewart and I am motivated to do the things that are unordinary and unheard of. My life was shifted drastically when I decided to take a leap of faith and show my original music to the world and those around me. My journey started at the age of six when I started singing publicly at my home church in Nassau, Bahamas. From there, I grew to love music more than anything else in the world. Seeing artists like Kirk Franklin, Chandler Moore, BrvndonP, Transformation Worship showed me that I have the same gift within me. I simply needed to put the work in and develop it. Consequently, I began my quest to create my own original music.
As time went on, I was not able to stop as much as I tried. I continued to release more projects and more videos. My music then received attention on national television and national radio. Later, I was noticed by well-known artists in The Bahamas and I was able to sign with their label, Remnant Management Group Music (RMG) and I released my debut single with them as a signed artist. Months later, I received two Bahamas Gospel Music Award Nominations for that project “Grateful.” I began to see how God was working in my life and I realized even more that this was God’s calling for me.
After putting in more work, I released my debut album, “Sincerely.” I felt complete after the release of that project, but later, I realized that God still had more for me to say. The art of creating music is something that is sacred to me. We have a divine way of reaching people and their hearts in ways that words alone cannot. I believe that God gave me this gift and decided to use me as a vessel because I have a unique way of displaying who he is through my music. One of the things that I am most proud of is being able to see other artists collaborate with me and join me in my quest to share the message of Jesus and his love to the world through my personal platform. It is truly an honor. In 2024, I realized how God truly led me when I received the Bahamas Gospel Music Award for Album of the Year for “Sincerely.”
I also believe that I have a wide skill set as an entrepreneur in the creative field. For years, I worked on my craft in songwriting, production and also learning everything about the music artist field. As my clientele grew more and more, I decided that I wanted to launch my own digital music production company and consultation agency, “Joshua Stewart Music Co.™” As a music producer, I recently started creating other projects for other artists as well. It is always a blessing for others to trust you in crafting their vision and helping to make it into a reality.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This came with ups and downs. My high school years were not the greatest after I started to release my own music. Students began to make fun of me for doing it. They did not believe that it would go anywhere or that I would be successful in that field. I came to a point where I contemplated quitting music. My thought process was that if I stop the cause of me being a laughing stock, then things will go back to normal and I would be left alone.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
There are a number of works that I have done so far that I am the most proud of. A virtual event called “In The Studio 2023,” My recent single “Love” and the launch of my new business “Joshua Stewart Music Co.™” In The Studio is a music and artistry conference that I founded that focuses on informing, engaging and elevating in the field of music in the Bahamas. The panel discussion featured Bahamas Gospel Music Award winners, Stermon, Joinae Gibson, Colyn Kristopher, and The BGMAs CEO, Travis Edgecombe. We also had a special guest all the way from the United States, Pastor Pace Fordham who joined us virtually as well. It was humbling to see such accomplished individuals take a chance on me to sit with me risking their platforms to speak truth to the topic of the struggles and the behind the scenes of what it takes to do what we do. It was also well received by the audience in attendance.
My single “Love” that featured Stermon, Leandria Smith and Colyn Kristopher was one of the most professional singles that I have done so far. It pushed me as a producer, a writer and arranger in ways that no other project has done before. The song was written in a tough season in my life where I struggled emotionally and battled with my mental and emotional health. There seemed to be no way out, but God found me in one of my
lowest moments and gave me an exit. It was amazing to see how it was received so well. That single is different from all of the others because I believe that I poured my heart out in ways that I have not before. I can be very guarded at times, but I realized that I have to be fully open with my storytelling. Regardless of how people feel and what they say.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising that most people might not know is that I write and produce the majority of my music in my own. I do use co-writers from time to time, but normally, all of my released ideas come from within. I believe that the stories from authors must be authentic and personal. So, I made it my mission to ensure that the stories that I tell truly came from me and not someone else.
