Today we’d like to introduce you to Unyime Etuk

Hi Unyime, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?

My journey with art began at a young age. I have always been passionate about art, especially drawing and painting, and I was fascinated by how these artworks were created. Driven by this passion, I decided to learn how to create art myself. I began practicing drawing and painting, with a particular focus on drawing. Through consistent practice, I improved significantly and started taking commissions to support myself.

As I promoted my work, I gained recognition and built a fan base. This growing visibility led to international acclaim, culminating in my first solo exhibition abroad. The success of this exhibition has opened many doors for me and deepened my love for being an artist. While I knew how to create art, learning to effectively promote myself was a crucial part of my journey.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

The journey hasn’t always been smooth. I started with limited resources, and obtaining drawing supplies was a significant challenge. I recall saving my transport fare just to afford art materials. The constant fear of not achieving success in the art field made the process even tougher. Despite these obstacles, I persevered and eventually overcame these difficulties.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

I specialize in both drawing and painting, with a current focus on painting. My work predominantly features vibrant, expressive paintings that showcase my growth and evolving style. While I began with drawing, painting has become my primary medium, allowing me to explore color, texture, and emotion in new and dynamic ways. This shift has enabled me to create more immersive and impactful pieces. And
I’m known for my ability to create lifelike representations that evoke strong emotional responses from viewers.

What I’m most proud of is the international recognition I’ve received, which culminated in my first solo exhibition abroad. This opportunity not only validated my hard work but also opened up new avenues for growth and collaboration.

What sets me apart is the powerful messages conveyed through my work. Each piece is created with the intent to communicate deeper themes and emotions, which resonate strongly with people. I make art that goes beyond aesthetic appeal, aiming to provoke thought and evoke meaningful responses. This focus on conveying significant messages is a core element that distinguishes my work from others. As we are different, so are our thoughts and Ideas and I am proud to say that my Ideas are always brilliant

What were you like growing up?

Growing up, I was always an introvert, often feeling like I had a lot to express but unsure of my ability to confront people directly. When I discovered art, it felt like a true blessing—a way to lend my voice and be heard without having to speak out loud. Art became my platform for expression, allowing me to communicate my thoughts and feelings in a profound way.

As I began participating in shows and exhibitions, I found that art not only gave me a voice but also helped me build the courage to engage more openly with others. Through this journey, I’ve experienced significant personal growth and transformation. Art has become a powerful tool for change in my life, enabling me to overcome my initial hesitations and connect with people on a deeper level.

My lifelong interest in growth and success drives me to continuously develop my skills and advance in my career as an artist. I am committed to evolving both personally and professionally, striving to achieve new milestones and make a meaningful impact through my work.
