We’ve always tried to ask the questions that matter but that are too awkward for people to ask their friends, family and coworkers without seeming dramatic. One of those questions is about mission and purpose – when’s the last time you asked a friend what their mission was? Too often we don’t talk about our own missions and don’t ask those close to us about theirs with the result being that our missions remain secret. Are you just a doctor or are you a doctor who wants to be there for patients in the way you wished your father’s doctor had been? People have incredible and meaningful missions, and we hope our conversations asking folks about their mission can inspire more such conversations in your life.

I am an affordable mobile hairstylist and College student at the Illustrious Texas Southern University, my motto is “Your hair is your crown,” reflects a deep appreciation for personal identity and self-expression. It suggests that hair isn’t just a physical attribute but a significant part of who we are. This mission likely stems from a desire to empower individuals to embrace their unique beauty and celebrate their heritage. I absolutely love transforming individuals and helping to provide them with a positive self-image. I believe that when people feel confident about their hair, it enhances their overall self-esteem and personal presence. This mission could be rooted in your own experiences or observations about how hair can influence perception, confidence, and even cultural pride. Ultimately, it’s about helping others recognize and honor their individuality, fostering a sense of pride and empowerment in how they present themselves to the world. “If you look good you feel good and if you feel good you do good!” Read more>>

Growing up, I yearned to see faces like mine gracing the silver screen. The lack of representation left a profound void, fueling a burning desire to create a platform for all ethnicities. I envisioned a world where individuals could pursue their passions without societal constraints, where their dreams were not confined to traditional expectations. Talent & Skills was born from this aspiration after my college years. My mission was not merely to provide opportunities for those who looked like me but to empower anyone seeking a break in the entertainment industry. I wanted to guide them through the complexities of the industry, offering mentorship, and coaching to help them navigate the path to success. Read more>>

I was obese – 497 pounds to be exact. For years, I’d promise my doctor I’d lose weight, but nothing changed. Then, during one visit, he took a different approach. He explained that my organs were under extreme stress, and by the time I felt it, it might be too late. His words terrified me. “When you control your habits, you control your life,” he said. Those words sparked a change. I dove into books on habit formation and started implementing what I learned. The results were astonishing – I lost over 200 pounds in just a few years. Motivated by my transformation, I became a Tiny Habits certified coach, with BJ Fogg as my mentor. Now, I share these life-changing lessons with others. I’ve spoken to diverse organizations about habit formation and behavior design – from the DOJ and FBI labs to high schools and health services. My journey from obesity to health coach taught me that changing habits can revolutionize not just health, but all aspects of life – communication, productivity, leadership, and relationships. I’m living proof that small changes can lead to big results. Read more>>

The Solinity global mission is to create housing, programs, and services for the aging population. The Solinity family of companies, we call our ecosystem, is intended to shape the way we view aging while creating solutions that influence positive change. At the turn of the past century, caring for each other started with the family and extended to the local community as well as caring organizations and institutions. At the core of care and coordination was the family. Overtime, with many positive changes, we unfortunately also delegated the family and community role in providing care more and more to a “health system” that continues to be more and more controlled by the government. Simultaneously, as the “American Dream” has been defined with the center of it being wealth generation and a goal of “retirement” has become fundamental in our planning, society has forgotten why we were created and that we all have a unique purpose we were created for that is not defined by our work or health. Solinity wants to inform, educate, and influence aging adults to understand their purpose and live it. We strive to create housing, programs, and services that help everyone realize they have a unique purpose given to them by God, and that as long as they have breath and life each of us has a purpose to live. In spite of our frailty, we have a purpose and we want to assist all of those we can influence in living that purpose. Read more>>

The mission behind Fiery Nova is to share the love of jewelry and crystals at an affordable price. The story behind this is, when I was younger, I was always attracted to crystals (before I even knew what they were). It has been a ‘healing’ passion and journey, and I always love seeing what else is out there, carved, etc.. When I started shopping for crystals these past few years, I noticed ridiculous prices, for something I had gotten for over half the price. I saw that I was not the only person that saw this, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and opened Fiery Nova! Read more>>

Cynims’ mission is deeply rooted in celebrating and uplifting Black culture through vibrant, expressive athleisure wear. Our mission emerged from a desire to address a gap in the market where inclusive representation and cultural expression were often overlooked in athletic fashion. The story behind our mission is personal and powerful. Our founder, driven by a passion for both fashion and cultural heritage, recognized that athleisure could be more than just functional—it could be a canvas for storytelling. By incorporating bold, vibrant prints and patterns inspired by African art and traditions, we aim to create a brand that reflects the beauty and diversity of Black culture. This mission is meaningful because it connects deeply with our community’s identity and experiences. It empowers us to provide a platform for cultural expression while promoting inclusivity and representation in the fashion industry. I currently work in the Aviation and Aerospace industry and have recently embarked on the journey of starting my own business. The mission behind this endeavor is deeply personal; it stems from my desire to honor my late mother and advocate for my children. My mother faced significant challenges in her life and, unfortunately, did not have the opportunity to share her story or fully realize her potential. This lack of support affected her mentally and spiritually. I am committed to breaking the cycle of struggle that impacted my mother, and at times, myself, ensuring that my children have a brighter future. My mission is to be a voice for those who may not have one and to end the generational challenges that have persisted in my family. Read more>>

The mission behind my work is to guide people towards living a healthier, balanced, soul-led lifestyle, helping them align their careers, relationships, and personal lives with their true purpose. This mission is deeply meaningful to me because I’ve personally walked through the challenges of feeling disconnected and misaligned. For years, I followed paths that didn’t fully reflect who I was, which led me to burnout and a sense of stagnation. It wasn’t until I went through my own transformation—letting go of a career that didn’t serve me and embracing my passion for holistic healing and personal development—that I realized how life-changing it is to live in alignment with your truth. I saw firsthand the incredible difference it made in my life: emotionally, spiritually, and even professionally. Read more>>

When I was 17, my parents got divorced. I turned to poetry writing to try to make sense of a world gone to pieces. Laying my confusion and sorrow down on paper helped me heal. During the pandemic, when it once again felt like the world was falling apart, I found new meaning in those old poems by rearranging their words. That experience became the scaffolding for my business, poem RENOVATION. Words have the power to heal, to connect, to inspire. My mission is to give people of all ages the tools needed to harness that power. My method: poem RENOVATION. Here’s how poem RENOVATION works: Every day, poemrenovation.com presents visitors with a scrambled snippet of literature. Users select words that resonate with them, then move them around on a digital canvas to create something new. The rules? There are none. The objective? Simply to create. Read more>>

My mission is to give voice and meaning to the stories of people like me, in terms of social background, ethnicity, and race. Ever since I was a child, I was surrounded by stories of heroes, villains, scientists, artists, and dreamers, but none of them felt like me. It was as if I was hearing about distant, idealized figures who didn’t talk, walk, or feel the same things I experienced. I come from very humble beginnings, and one could argue that I still am in these times. When you come from a background like mine, from the unnoticed parts of the world, people rarely talk about your stories. It’s hard to find people you can relate to, and even when you do, it often feels like someone has stolen your voice and used it in the wrong way. My wish is to ensure that one day, a young Lennox out there can look at my stories and say, “I feel heard, I feel seen, and I am inspired to change my circumstances through my dreams, desires, and passions.” Read more>>

The Story Behind My Mission Mama Alana’s Pantry was born out of a deeply personal journey—a quest to create safe, delicious food for people like myself and my family who face a unique set of challenges. I am the daughter of an immigrant from Sicily, Italy, and I was raised with a love for food that connects people and celebrates culture. But life threw me a curveball. I have a rare bone disease, celiac disease, and many food allergies, and as it turned out, my children share some of these sensitivities. Finding food that was not only safe but also truly enjoyable became a real struggle. I started Mama Alana’s Pantry because I knew there had to be others out there, just like us, looking for food that they could enjoy without compromise. This month marks one year since we opened our doors, and what keeps me going is the excitement and joy from people who discover our products for the first time. There’s nothing more fulfilling than receiving a message from someone saying they can finally eat something they love—something that’s safe for them. It makes all the hard work and challenges worth it. Read more>>

My mission is to create a safe space where my clients can feel truly heard and supported. Whether it’s through offering guidance, encouragement, or simply listening, I’m here to help clients navigate their challenges with compassion. Life has thrown me some pretty intense curveballs—from managing a chronic condition to navigating changing relationship dynamics, I’ve had my fair share of lessons. But here’s the thing: I never gave up. My resilience has pushed me forward, even when I wanted to curl up and retreat. And believe me I did that for a while too. I’ve learned that it’s not about dodging life’s uncomfortable parts, but rather meeting them head-on with courage and understanding, knowing that I’ll come out the other side a little stronger and a little wiser. Capturing and retelling stories has always been a significant theme in my life. I grew up in Coats, NC, a small southern town with a population of about 2,000. Our town, home of North Carolina’s first licensed pilot, has a rich history. One of my favorite pastimes was exploring the country roads around Coats, photographing abandoned buildings. These structures were steeped in stories from the past, like the antebellum tavern that later served as a hospital during the Civil War. After earning a BA in Photography from Meredith College in Raleigh, I continued to delve into stories through both people and the places that shape their identities. In the summer of 2000, I studied photography in Paris, where I explored the same sites documented by the French pioneer of documentary photography, Eugene Atget. Atget’s photographs had captured Old Paris before industrial changes transformed it, creating a photographic inventory to preserve its beauty for future generations. Visiting many of these same locations, I captured my own images and found my own inspiration. Atget once said, “Paris does not care about your presence. It’s indifferent and will certainly go on without you.” For me, though, the beauty of Paris did not seem indifferent and apart, but rather deeply intertwined with its people. I see the soul of Paris in the connection of its architecture and its people. Read more>>

I started this business to give hope for relief to those who may feel like giving up! I’ve had 19 brain and spinal surgeries, one of which resulted in a stroke during the operation. This happened 10 years ago. I woke up paralyzed from the neck down. I had to relearn how to walk, hold a pencil, tie my shoes, etc. at the age of 21. I turned to natural healing modalities when I had been severely harmed by modern medicine practices. Now, I do believe modern medicine has its place! However, I do not believe it should be the only option. As a natural health consultant, I can advise my customers on some natural ways to help them on their healing journey. At Grandaddy Willow, I create products to offer support to those who have lost hope and need that extra light. Read more>>

This wasn’t always my reality—before 2019, I was unaware that God had given me a profound assignment, and I wasn’t living up to my full potential. Then, on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in September 2019, everything changed. I had a mental breakdown. Tired of being sick and tired, I sought help from a spiritual life coach, a decision that transformed my life. Through this journey of self-discovery, I learned several hard truths: I wasn’t standing in my authenticity, I didn’t love myself, and I was hiding from the world. It wasn’t until I declared my truth— “I am adopted”—that I found my voice. This profound moment fueled my desire to help others find theirs. Read more>>

The Story Behind Our Mission At Working Girls Boutique, our mission is deeply rooted in a personal experience that ignited my passion for authenticity in the luxury resale market. A few years ago, I purchased what I thought was a beautiful vintage Chanel handbag, only to discover it was a counterfeit. The disappointment and anger I felt were profound—not just because of the money I had lost, but because I realized I had been misled. It was a disheartening reminder of how prevalent fraud can be in the luxury goods market. This experience fueled my determination to create a safe haven for luxury lovers, where authenticity is guaranteed. I wanted to ensure that no one else would go through the same ordeal I did. This passion gave birth to Working Girls Boutique, a platform dedicated to providing genuine, gently-loved luxury handbags. We prioritize rigorous authentication processes, partnering with Entrupy to ensure that our customers feel confident in their purchases. Read more>>

My father and I have always shared a passion for sneakers and fashion, so when the chance to attend a local sneaker convention came up, we were thrilled! Once there, I found so many shoes I wanted, but no one had my size—and worse, no one seemed interested in dealing with a woman trying to buy sneakers. That’s when it hit us: there should be a space where women feel welcome and can find shoes that actually fit them. This mission is deeply meaningful to us because every time we welcome a new customer, they’re excited to finally have a sneaker store that caters directly to them. We strive to meet our customers wherever they are in their sneaker journey. The 100 Plus Women of Virtue is focused on economic empowerment for women. Our mission is to ensure we support the next generation of female leaders across various industries. The story behind the vision and creation of the organization came about 10 years ago when I decided that it was important for me to use my voice and expand my leadership role. This allowed me to leverage and maximize more than 20 years of working with women in our community. Oftentimes true leaders are marginalized due to their own insecurities, or the insecurities of others projected on them. I decided that I was not going to get comfortable with any of these scenarios. My organization seeks to ensure young ladies are mentored, loved, nurtured and given the support to bloom. I host a yearly empowerment conference to celebrate the accomplishments of these amazing women leaders. My philosophy is – A meaningful life can be nurtured when you are doing what you love, and you know within your soul you are making a difference. Read more>>

My mission stems from a lifelong passion for entrepreneurship and empowerment. From a young age, I sought out ways to create my own wealth—whether it was doing my aunt’s nails for $5 at family cookouts, selling brownies in high school, or later expanding into hair, lashes, and driving trucks. Through these experiences, I discovered that my true purpose wasn’t just about making money for myself, but about motivating and encouraging others to chase their dreams. When I graduated college, it became clear to me that I had a bigger responsibility—to build generational wealth, not only for my family but for everyone I can impact along the way. My mission has evolved into a journey of shared growth, as I believe that when we uplift each other, we create a ripple effect of success. My goal is to provide people in my community with the tools, mindset, and motivation to break through barriers and create lasting financial abundance, all while giving God the glory. Read more>>

The Birth of Deevents The inspiration for Deevents came from witnessing how couples often struggled to make their wedding day authentically reflect who they are. Weddings can become overwhelming with trends, expectations, and outside pressures, and somewhere along the way, the essence of the couple’s unique love story can get lost. I saw a need to create a space where the couple’s vision takes center stage while providing unparalleled support during the planning process to truly take that pressure off of the couple. This is how Deevents was born. Read more>>

Did you know that 66% of U.S. households—about 65.1 million—own a dog? These loyal companions bring us joy, comfort, and a sense of responsibility. But let’s be honest—sometimes, they also bring challenges and stress! One significant issue facing our country is the rate of dog rehoming. Raising awareness about the importance of proper training and consistent upkeep is essential. While no dog—or human—is perfect, studies show that trained dogs are 1.4 times more likely to be adopted and remain in their forever homes. At Carter K9 Training, LLC, based in Louisville, KY, our mission is simple yet powerful: to strengthen the bond and trust between people and their dogs through proven, effective training techniques. We believe that every dog owner deserves to enjoy a harmonious life with their pet, both inside and outside the home. Growing up in a traditional Chinese immigrant family, I was taught that Corporate American was the only way that’s worth pursuing. So I took my parents’ advice and kept working towards getting a job in Big 4 Accounting and climbing up the corporate ladder. I was miserable, but I kept telling myself that this is just how it is. This is just part of adulting. I kept going, until the pandemic happened. As I was isolated at home with the shelter in place order, my mental health took a nosedive, and I had a “dark night of the soul” moment. Corporate might be the way for some, but it’s not the way for me. My mental health always takes priority over money, prestige or societal respect. The pandemic was a wake up call for me to finally pursue a route that diverges from corporate, the traditional stereotypical successful path. I eventually quit corporate altogether in 2021 and I haven’t been back since. Read more>>

Like most women, growing up I felt the damage caused by toxic beauty culture and society’s unattainable beauty standards to my sense of self . Strength Mark’s mission is to help us rediscover – and redefine – our self-confidence as humans by celebrating the parts of ourselves society deems “imperfect.” Though the project was originally focused on decorating stretch marks, Strength Marks quickly evolved to celebrate scars – and bodies – of all kinds. Thirteen years ago, when I first entered the world of financial advising, I wasn’t entirely sure it was the right path for me. Most would not likely see a women’s boutique as “mission-driven,” but when I left my career in education in order to pursue a career in business, I knew that my business had to be more than just a place to shop; it had to be a way to help and love others. So I opened my little shop, Addie’s Boutique. My mission and greatest desire for my little shop is that it is a place where women feel confident and secure in their bodies, in how they look, but, most importantly, in who they are and the fingerprints they leave on others in this world.
