We were lucky to catch up with Nick Schwarz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nick , appreciate you joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?
Just after graduating from college, I got a job at The Adventure Science Center. This job was absolutely random for me because I had never been to the Science Center, and my job was to fix the exhibits when they malfunctioned, despite having zero experience. There were many times when I had to fix something that was way over my head and I had no idea how to fix it, but it was my job to do so. I learned that if I applied myself and gave it my all, I could resolve the issue 90% of the time. And if I encountered any trouble, I could simply Google it or ask for help. It seems so simple, but this lesson encouraged me to jump into building a career as a producer by applying myself and persevering through challenges. Having a great mentor to turn to for help when trouble arises is also crucial!
Another wonderful thing that came from my time at the Adventure Science Center is my amazing wife of 7 years, Christina.

Nick , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Nick Schwarz, and I am a songwriter and producer based in Nashville, TN. I assist artists in creating their music, exploring new sounds, and expressing themselves through their songs. In 2019, I signed with Essential Music Publishing and have since written several radio singles, including the seven-week number one hit, “Rise Up (Lazarus)” by Cain. I have also collaborated with artists such as Bailey Zimmerman, Drew Baldridge, Cain, Zach Williams, and many others. I feel incredibly fortunate to have earned two Gold records and to have produced two number one songs. Currently, I have a Top 5 country song with Drew Baldridge titled “She’s Somebody’s Daughter,” which I produced.
From 2015 to 2018, I apprenticed under the five-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer, Chris Stevens. I learned invaluable lessons from Chris, ranging from technical tricks to client relations. This industry can be emotionally demanding, and one of the most important things I learned from Chris is to stay focused and persistent. Create music that inspires you, and success will follow. I am deeply grateful for the mentorship and guidance he continues to provide.
I owe much of my successful career to the unwavering love and support of my wife, Christina. From the beginning, she has been my greatest encourager and believer.
When I’m not making music, you can find me at the pool with my kids or on the golf course with my friends. I am incredibly thankful for the life that God has blessed me with, as well as the connections and individuals He has placed in my path to support me in reaching where I am today.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I believe my mission on this planet is to encourage. I’m passionate about uplifting up-and-coming artists to keep pursuing their dreams. For me, it’s important to remind artists that they have a story worth sharing and a gift that the world needs to hear. Every day, I strive to ensure that every client who walks into my studio leaves feeling good about themselves and excited about the music they’ve created.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ve approached my career with the mindset that there is no plan B—I’m giving it my all. This mindset has been crucial in navigating through the low points. During slow business periods or when I’m not getting any cuts, having a plan B would make it tempting to give up and pursue an easier path. I firmly believe that to succeed as a creative, you have to be fully committed.
For example, during COVID-19, nobody was coming to my studio, making it very difficult to produce music for clients. Several times, I considered taking up a delivery job to make ends meet. However, I chose to focus on finding ways to make my business thrive in such challenging times. By dedicating myself to the task, I eventually discovered an effective approach to continue working despite the circumstances.
