We were lucky to catch up with Joie Gharrity recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joie , thanks for joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
When I launched my business, I hesitantly stepped into the world of public speaking. My first gig was a modest room with just ten attendees. As I stood there, I drew from my 15+ years in the Hollywood Entertainment industry, weaving stories of triumphs and challenges. As I wrapped up my keynote, a hand shot up, a question, I assumed. But it wasn’t about my talk; it was an offer. The woman wanted to hire me for my services. In that unexpected moment, I launched my business. That day, I learned that sometimes, the smallest rooms hold the biggest opportunities.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I launched Joie G 113 pulling from my 15+ years working in the Hollywood entertainment industry at top companies in film, television, original web content, and branded entertainment. I was even hand-picked by the ABC Studio President to launch the first multimedia startup business for The Walt Disney Company. My experience taught me that success isn’t just about talent; it’s about visibility. The studio systems I encountered shaped my understanding of how influence opens doors. Whether you’re a leading actor or an entrepreneur, being seen matters. It’s directly linked to your earning power and your ability to impact the marketplace.
Drawing from my Hollywood background, I realized that entrepreneurs needed a similar spotlight. Just as a well-crafted film captivates audiences, a well-defined brand can captivate customers. Joie G 113 bridges these worlds. I am not just about marketing, I am about creating emotional connection with the marketplace.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Growing up, I often hid in the shadows. Our middle-class family lived in a suburban area near one of the world’s most prosperous cities. There, wealth and parental prestige were highly regarded. But when my parents enrolled me in an all-girls private school, my world turned upside down. Suddenly, It was one thing to observe wealth from a distance, but quite another to be immersed in it daily.
Over time, I realized that value isn’t solely tied to wealth or our parents’ vocations. The constant signals from the community and media had impacted my confidence, keeping me hidden until adulthood. However, I’ve since unlearned that story. In my book, “Being Your Own Superstar: How to Expand Your Love Capacity,” I share the transformative “Love Capacity Daily Habits System.” This system has allowed me to step out of the shadows and into my spotlight.
I share this quote often: “Step into your spotlight, share your unique gifts and talents with the world. It’s not just a privilege; it’s your birthright.”
Today, I’m grateful for my journey, a blend of humble beginnings and affluent surroundings.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is a powerful tool for visibility and influence. It’s not just about posting; it’s about engaging. Imagine walking into your favorite coffee shop. You greet friends, and chat with potential new ones.. Social media works the same way. It’s your chance to say “hi” to your audience, celebrate achievements, and showcase your unique perspective.
One common mistake? Treating social media like a drive-thru. Instead, linger a bit. Support others, and they’ll support you. It’s a two-way street.
Remember those endless networking breakfasts, lunches, and dinners? Social media is that, minus the calories and bill! It’s where you meet fascinating people, learn from their unique viewpoints, and spotlight their achievements and your own.
So, next time you log in, think of it as stepping into your favorite coffee shop. Be yourself, have fun, and see what happens next.
