We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ronnie and Damaris Staton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ronnie and Damaris below.
Ronnie and Damaris, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
We focus on creating custom woood items for businesses, homes and individuls which makes every order a meaningful project. It’s something about bringing another person’s idea to life in wood that makes it special to us. We believe these projects are all meaningful because of the trust that it takes to invest in having something created that you can not yet see. With every order that is placed our hearts do a liittle happy dance. While we try to express it, it is unknown if our supporters know what they mean to us.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Inspired by the 90’s culture we, Ronnie and Damaris Staton, have taken a unique approach to our family business, The Staton Wood Company. Our business is best known for producing custom, handcrafted wood items for businesses and individuals to express their lifestyle, culture, and brand awareness. Since childhood, we have both known we had an artistic gift, and it wasn’t until Ronnie was introduced to a laser-cutting machine at Alamance Community College that our creativity was allowed to take flight. To help us gain a competitive edge, Ronnie received his associate’s degree from ACC in advertisement graphic design in 2016 and bachelor’s degree in graphic communications from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 2018. We learned very early in the business when working with a laser cutting machine that everything is based on your level of creativity and talent that controls the machine.
We currently create unique custom, and personalized wood items, and it’s our goal to help each supporter of our business to dream in wood. Some of the items we create are jewelry, trophies, business cards, plaques, display stands, donor walls, and all types of signage. We have most recently added fundraising opportunities as well as STEM programing to the list of services that we offer. We are most proud of our ability to create functional wood items that are unique to the needs of each individual or business. Our creative approach to woodworking is what sets us apart from other. Even if we do not, we offer the item a supporter is looking for; we have the capability of creating it.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For us, the most rewading aspect of being a creative is seeing our work out in public. As our business has grown we have gone from seeing our jewelry only, to seeing local business signage and donor/sponsor walls too. It’s a great feeling to know that our family business was able to create these items and that someone liked them enough to purchase for themselves or to share witth someone else. It’s an even greater feeling to see other people admiring our dedsigns and hardwork.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One recource we would have liked to have known about earlier in our creative journey is our local Chamber of Commerce. While we know that each chanmber of commerce offers different programing it’s a great resource for creatives and entrepreneurs. We were able to participate in a 14 week program that offered a different class each week, mentors and a pitch competition to local entrepreneurs. Some of those classes where branding, social media, marketing, funding, your customer, competitors and developing a strong value proposition statement. eventhough we have been entrepreneurs for several years these classes pushed us to think more about the business side of being an entrepreneur.
