We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Martel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Opening my business was an extremely emotional journey for me….. and that was it…. Just Me! I can be my hardest critic at times but with the support of my family, my clients I had built up in my beginning hair journey, and my passion I decided this is definitely what I wanted to Pursue. In my mind I wanted to make a name for myself. And I wanted my daughter to be proud of me in the end. She was my main focus. I knew I could build and make great money doing what I love. And now thinking back this is actually a blessing having that confidence to go for it! My logic was work day and night, work weekends, and any day I could to build what I have now. In my mind if i didn’t put in the work with the time I had what Was I doing? Do I really want this? Am I truly happy? And looking back yes I was, I am, and im so very proud of the work hours I put in to have over 500 clients who continue to come back over and over. My unique approach would have to be my packages I offer at affordable pricing. I offer services as a timed package so my clients know exactly what there getting at a one set price, they can learn the true process of me taking the time to really take care of their hair and the step by step of what it takes to achieve their desired end look. I think the most exciting part of my work is providing them with confidence walking out my salon! It’s best best feeling. I now have a wonderful husband who loves and adores me, 2 beautiful children, a huge family tribe that helps me be able to work the way I do! It’s amazing. Now with me putting in the work the first 13 years of my career I’d say I now can now take vacations, Take more weekends off enjoy my babies, Create memories and continue to grow my company.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My beginning journey was not always easy. There was a dark time to where I can honestly say I was homeless. I’ve never told anyone. That was my lowest point. And the hardest time in my life. I worked different salon jobs. I worked odd jobs. I worked for little to nothing just to get by. While doing that I also did house calls on hair to family member for practice and new clients from word of mouth. I didn’t think I wanted to do color as a service because I would be so nervous. So at first I did only haircuts. Kids haircuts and men haircuts I would also only style womens hair.
I would practice color on family and learned to love the craft. I started to stay up all hours of the night to learn color formulas. I invested in Color classes. I would fill my brain with more and more knowledge of color. I now specialize in color correction, blonde, and extensions. I love it all! I love a challenge. I’m so glad I got over my fears and just went for what I love to do. I also started with my brand as BeautyByBrittany but over the years with my growth, my love for my girls, the reason I keep going, the reason I work so hard and appreciate my skills and my talent why not name my business after my girls, I can now say I’m proud to be where I am! Alise&Rose Beauty Room. Aubrey Alise and Adeline Rose you girls are my life! I want to pass down something they will remember forever. I want them to know everything in this world I do is for them. And I believe that if you work hard enough even coming from nothing…. You can build and be whoever you want to be.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being a good genuine person. Being myself. And treating people with the up most respect. My clients have all definitely helped build my reputation and I can say I’m forever grateful for each and everyone of them.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’m still currently building my social media but slowly I’m gaining a bigger audience. My advice would be post once a day. Post positive advice. Be yourself. And encourage others.
