Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joannah Seaborn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joannah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
As a child, I was always high-spirited and full of energy. I found solace in creativity, and art became my way of expressing my thoughts and feelings. Practicing art became a routine part of my life, and I felt understood whenever I was making something. My family recognized my talent early on and invested in my artistic growth.
During my mid-teens, my idea of art began to evolve. I enjoyed practicing traditional art, but my attention shifted toward commercial design. I was fascinated by the art used in popular music and television marketing, and I spent a lot of time experimenting with mixed mediums and collages to imitate the art I was interested in. This curiosity eventually led me to pursue an education in graphic design.
My journey into the design industry has played out well. After finishing my college education, I was hungry to perfect my craft. So, I built connections with mentors and started freelancing. Those opportunities gave me an advantage in learning the design business at the top of my career. Since then, I’ve worked for brands that have helped me refine my approach to brand and campaign development.
When it comes to design, I approach it with a curious mind and use it as my primary way to grow. To create authentic and practical solutions, I believe it’s crucial to deeply understand the customer’s brand and the challenges they face. I always try to find new ways and stay open to unconventional ideas, which has helped me to create innovative solutions. Building a community with other creatives has also been crucial for my personal and professional growth. Additionally, having technical proficiency is equally important because knowing your tools can improve the quality and impact of your content.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi there! I’m Joannah Seaborn, an Art Director/Designer based in Alabama with over 16 years of experience. My passion is in developing brands for creative professionals and musicians.
Art has always been a way for me to express myself, and I quickly realized that I had a natural talent for making it look good on paper. This led me to transition into design, where I’ve been thriving ever since.
My process is all about storytelling and creating a genuine connection between my clients’ brand and their audience. I’ve found that using narrative is a powerful tool to achieve this.
For the last six years, I’ve been focusing on working with clients in the creative industry. I draw inspiration from fashion, music, and film, which has helped me develop great synergy in working with artists.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As a designer, I aim to add value to my work, captivate audiences, and inspire through compelling content. Ultimately, my goal is to leave a positive lasting impact on those who engage with my designs.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As a creative, I find that there are two rewards that I experience. Firstly, as an artist, I enjoy the daily practice of using unconventional methods, techniques, and mediums to bring creative ideas to life. Secondly, as an art director/designer, I take pleasure in helping others develop their ideas so that their talents and goals are successfully fulfilled.
