We caught up with the brilliant and insightful IRKO a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
IRKO, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission is to improve every aspect of my clients’ songs with the best possible mix and master. No stone is left unturned, every single sound in the song is getting platinumized and one by one eventually it’ll form a grammy worth song! Growing up in another country, speaking a different language, my taste in music formed before the stories told on songs caught my attention. So all my attention was directed to the sonic landscapes these 3 minutes of art provide. So here’s the story behind my mission.
IRKO, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is IRKO, I’m a Multi Platinum Award Winning Audio Engineer. I grew up near Venice, Italy but I have been in the United States for 15 years. Music took me around the World and I have been very fortunate to have worked with artists like Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Sia, TheWeeknd, Jay-Z and many many more.
I’m sure you’ve seen a before and after photoshop for an image right? The image was good before but after it got touched up it’s perfect. I do that for songs, I platinumize them every day by making them as loud as big as punch as grandiose as they possible can.
The proudest moments of my career is when I see a song I worked on being heard by my clients’ fans millions and billions of times.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
Explaining on a quick post online what it is I do is very difficult. But years ago I figured out a clever way. I use visuals to illustrate how an artist’s song can go from Clark Kent to Super man; from a can of spam to a filet mignon plate; from a hand held sparkle to a full blown fireworks show. It seems this gets the point across!
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
That’s one of the most difficult things to do in business. My advice is that when the team wins, the win belongs to the team; when the team or one person in the team loses, the loss belongs to the leader.
