Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cassidy Scanlan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Cassidy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

In the spring of 2022, I was a recent graduate from the University of Minnesota Duluth where I majored in psychology and minored in business marketing. I came out of college with little money and a lot of uncertainty in my career path. I knew with my extensive marketing experience throughout high school and college that I wanted to find a job in this field. Still, I was having trouble finding a job that fulfilled me. A couple months after graduating college, I left my job that I had been working to get me through my last year of college and moved to a town that I knew very little about. I quickly learned that my options were slim in my preferred field of marketing. This is what led me to the creation of Cassidy Scanlan Advertising Group. Online marketing is vital in the success of businesses today, but is very often overlooked. When deploying the correct marketing tools, I have found that companies can expect an exponential growth in their company’s sales. For small businesses though, there may be a smaller budget and a need for a more “à la carte” approach to online marketing. Cassidy Scanlan Advertising Group was created to cater to the needs of small businesses. We give small businesses the opportunity to thrive without having to hire a full time marketing professional. Working with small businesses and owning one myself has given me a unique insight into the needs of my clients.

Cassidy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

As a third generation entrepreneur, I had the opportunity to work for my family’s company throughout high school and college. During my time working for my family’s company, I had the chance to learn about sales, accounting, bid review, event coordination, graphic design, videography, website design, branding and social media management. Combining all these skills I felt confident enough to set off on my own and create Cassidy Scanlan Advertising Group. Although there are many freelance marketing firms, I knew my experience, knowledge, communication skills and fair pricing would help me stand out. CSAG works with small companies around the United States offering website design, video creation, branding and social media management. I’m proud to say we have upheld our promise of integrity, commitment and finding equitable solutions for our clients marketing problems.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

In 2022, when I created my company, it was originally named Extra Mile Marketing. As Extra Mile Marketing continued to grow throughout the United States, I made the executive decision to rebrand. My decision to rebrand was one that did not come easy. This meant I was going to have to essentially start over. Throughout my transition, my main focus was to ensure my commitment to my clients remained constant. Now that I have rebranded my company, I believe this was the best business decision I have made to date. The company is now more aesthetically appealing and I feel it is more true to my personal style. This was a risk that I was anxious to take, but would do it again in a heartbeat because the shift has paid off.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been consistent, high quality online marketing. As cliche as it may seem, coming from an online marketing firm, this has been the key to increasing my number of clients. In modern society, word of mouth marketing is no longer enough to attract a high volume of clients. In order to adequately compete with the companies in your field you must use the correct online marketing tools. I always recommend starting off with a user friendly website and building your social media presence from there. This allows your clients to have multiple sources of information about your company and increased transparency about your services/products. Cassidy Scanlan Advertising Group works with clients to pick the online marketing tools we feel will work best for their company.

Other ways I have found clients is through local business organizations, business leadership events and visiting local companies in my area. When I moved, these were amazing ways to network with local businesses and to create connections with people in my new area.
