I was always a very quiet and shy kid growing up early on and I can remember being asked to perform an Easter speech at church.when I was about 4 years old.I learned the speech, but it when it came time for me to perform, I could not get up there and do it even though I knew the speech cold, My fear of an audience was bigger than my fear of the Easter Bunny at that age but I remember the warm applause that the other kids received after their recitations. I wanted that too. Read more>>

Photography has always been a part of my life since I was a little kid. My parents always loved the idea of collecting moments and keeping them forever, so they made sure to capture every single experience I had growing up. Besides my parents, my entire family also believes in this same idea so every birthday, Christmas gatherings or family celebrations were an event on and off camera. Growing up in an environment like this truly opened my mind for creativity, therefore, my artistic side became more present in my life. Read more>>

I’ve always had this innate desire to create. Growing up, I spent countless hours studying details and trying to replicate them on paper. My art teacher in high school saw my dedication and started searching for art scholarships for me to apply for. She found the VFW National Patriotic Art Contest, and I was set on entering. I had decided to try a technique I hadn’t tried before called pointillism- creating a drawing using only dots. I decided to draw a Marine Veteran saluting to the American Flag, the dots allowed me to create the most intricate details. Little did I know the time commitment I was undertaking! I started the drawing my freshman year of high school and finally finished it two years later after over 300 hours of work. Read more>>

At the age of 38 I left my dream job because it wasn’t a good fit anymore. I felt so lost. I woke up in the middle of the night and had a divine moment… I felt I was supposed to pursue my passions. At the time it was songwriting, building furniture, and sharing it all on a blog. I started posting my builds on social media and I started getting custom requests. The furniture making left a lot of scraps, so I got to innovating ways to use them. And I started to make wood art. I was making and selling art, so I owned the artist label. Read more>>

Music has always been a huge part of my life. Beginning at a young age I sang at my parents church and that’s where my passion was ignited. I grew up in a big family of 6. We would take road trips often, and on those trips my parents would teach us songs and how to harmonize. My home town is extremely small but through networking I was able to sing with artists on bigger platforms. Witnessing the impact of their ministry was life changing. I didn’t know how I’d ever have the same opportunities, but I knew it was what I loved to do and would find a way to make it happen. Read more>>

I’ve been singing as long as I can remember- since I was about four or five -years-old. I always knew singing and music was my passion, because I would it with no hesitation-and for free. I knew I wanted to pursue music professionally when I was about seven or eight-years-old. I had the opportunity to sing at an event that was honoring teachers. My second grade teacher, my mom, brother and grandparents were there. I sang “Because You Loved Me,” by Celine Dion, but we changed it to “Because You Taught Me.” Read more>>

I was working with Military Veterans as a social worker and making jewelry on the side as a therapeutic/creative outlet. In August 2019 a friend, who owns a unique local retail store, invited me to be the “Artist of the Month” to display and sell my jewelry. I was so nervous to share my creations with her customers but the response was incredibly positive! The demands of home life, being a caregiver, and as a mom made it challenging to continue my social work career. I resigned from my job in the beginning of the pandemic and fully embraced a new venture as a jewelry maker and small business owner. Read more>>

Curiosity aroused in me from an early age, I remember that I had access to a family computer, the use of code to enter the operating system, the classic Windows screensaver, RGP games, shipwrecked, etc. Then I met a software where I could write and add a drawing (clipart) the wonderful thing at that time was to be able to add transitions and music to the sheets full of texts and drawings. This was my first approach to what I currently do. Read more>>

I (James), had the desire to be a singer long before my brother Chris. Since the age of 5, singing in the children’s choir at church and taking chorus every school year since…. it almost felt destined. Whereas I (Chris), was a late bloomer finding my voice at the age of 8 after being giving my first duet with the children’s choir as well. LyR-X was formed in the summer of 2009 after winning a talent show. We decided we wanted to purse our passion fully with the desire to bring old school RnB back… and we’ve been working ever since. I was 24 years old and in college at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. I was in my seventh year having entered college at 17 years old. You see, I fell in love with music at the age of 19 and I have been obsessed about it ever since. Even now at the age of 50! Although I wasn’t a professional just yet, I threw myself at music. I dropped out of college, got labor intensive job to pay the bills and got in a blues band and an original rock band. I knew I could make it! I just needed more time and to delve into my songwriting and practicing my instruments, which at the time were acoustic guitar, electric and bass guitar. Read more>>

There was never any specific timing in my life where I was like, “you know what, I want to do creative hair “. In 2017 I initially I couldn’t decide if I wanted to finish BSN for nursing. My mother suggested doing hair because I was also a freelance make up artist for several years. So I had both contracts for the schools in front of me that work to on the same day. And my mother made a negative comment stating that I would never finish my nursing degree. So I ended up signing the cosmetology contract. So it turns out I am not too shabby doing hair. Everyone has walked out with her unless otherwise specified. Read more>>

My first real thoughts of pursuing art professionally came at a very young age. Artists like Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane, and Marc Silvestri exploded onto the scene and changed comics forever. I remember picking up those books as a teenager and just being blown away by their work. I would sit in my bedroom for hours on end trying to draw like them, copying my favorite comic book characters and even creating new ones of my own. Read more>>

Growing up I never imagined I would be in the creative field professionally. Initially I wanted to be a doctor until the 6th grade. I was uprooted from the only school I attended my entire life, which was a private school, and forced to attend a public school for the first time in life. I remember my aunt Jessie driving me to my first day of school. I was visibly upset and low spirited sitting in her passenger seat and she said a few words to me that changed the course of my life forever. Read more>>

I have always been a creative person, but I am also really good in STEM. I decided to pursue a path in engineering because it seemed like the best route to success. So, I went to Spelman College and Georgia Tech, and studied Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering respectively. The transition from Spelman to Tech was difficult and I needed an outlet to help me get through the program. I turned to art and dedicated my time to painting. I realized I had a business here and decided to create one after I graduated from college. Read more>>

I’ve always been into the arts as far as creative writing, poetry, and visual arts. My dad could draw anything you could imagine. My dad was a big inspiration for me. It wasn’t until I got tired of taking pictures with my phone that made me want to purchase a camera and really take off. Specifically, I took a picture of a turkey that I saw at my job. I got as close as I could and the picture turned out great, at least I thought it did. From the day forward, I knew I had to pick up a camera. Read more>>

I have always liked the art in all its forms of expression. I remember that since I was in preschool the teachers asked what I wanted to do when I grew up and I said, I want to be an actor, without even knowing what that was. All the other kids said they wanted to be truck drivers, doctors, or some other profession and they looked at me like, what is that being an actor? Since I was little I knew that I wanted to be in this artistic medium. When I was growing up, I signed up for all the plays at my school and I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I was from a town in Cuba where the acting career doesn’t transcend, it only stays in schools, so I focused on other things like photography. Read more>>

Ever since the age of 12 I knew I wanted to be an actor. The feelings that you get, when you watch a movie, tv show, play, etc. Are incredible and the relationship that you get with an audience are unimaginable. I started acting at the age of 12 and I still do today. I’m currently a student at Suny Purchase where I received many of the fundamentals of acting, however I later attended another school called The Neighborhood Playhouse where I then learned the acting method of Meisner. I am currently still learning more skills on improving my acting skills and planning to get an acting agent, so I later perform in tv shows, movies, etc. Read more>>

Since before I can remember I have always been passionate about art and expressing myself creatively and in 2020, I began to express myself through watercolors. That year, the world came to a complete stop and forced a lot of people to take a step back and look at what brings them joy. It was during the solitary months of quarantine that I found a Crayola watercolor set and started playing around with the paints. I was mesmerized by how they danced across the paper in a glorious, fluid symphony of movement. Read more>>

I realized at about nine years old I had an interest in beauty, hair, art & fashion. I was very attracted to all things beautiful. As a child I would sit on the side of my mom’s bed & chat with her while she would style her hair & make-up & I thought wow this process is so cool. How can I be apart lol. I went from playing in my dolls hair to playing in my friends & family member’s hair. I just loved how pretty they would look when I finished & the smiles they gave me showed me how great they felt. I knew doing hair made me also feel good. Read more>>

My photographic journey began many years ago in Iowa in my parents’ home-based portrait studio. That is where I learned the importance of light and composition and passion for photography. Over the years I migrated away from the studio and out into nature. I spend hours every week looking for images that capture the emotions of life in the natural world. I especially like to photograph wildlife, ocean seascapes, mountain landscapes, and wildflowers. Read more>>

I always knew that I wanted to pursue a creative path, for the longest time I believed and sought after a career in music, gospel music more specifically. However, life had other plans. It was only after watching a DIY show and seeing a well known interior designer create a wall treatment from grocery bags that looked like suede, I focused on a smaller application using decorative paper to create my own works of art and it blossomed into a 20yr career as an artist. I grew up a tomboy all the way into 9th grade. The school I went to was known for fashion shows outside of the excellent curriculum, so I knew I would look crazy coming into a school dressing and looking the way I was used to styling myself. I told my mom and godmother I didn’t want to go to school looking any kind of way and let them know that I wanted to change it up a bit. My godmom purchased a ton of brushes and makeup for me to practice and try out on myself. Read more>>

I’ve dreamed of wondrous things since I was a small child. I saw magic in the mundane at an early age and was given space to explore these curiosities. I was probably considered the strange kid. the Blerd(Black Nerd) with a very small social circle consisting of other comic book reading misfits. The problem is, I was naively in pursuit of what my high school counselor advised was out of reach for me, the idea that I could go on to college and pursue some semblance of my ill-formed dreams.
