A few weeks ago I was asked to join an online competition. It was a “March Madness” for artists, so we were competing song-for-song against each other. And I join the room. I’m listening to the other artists and I’m thinking…”These are all rappers… I do R&B, but whatever. I GOT this!” Read more>>

My 9-year-old daughter Elle will tell you that one of my favorite movies is the remake of Cinderella (2015) staring Lily James. I love this movie for many reasons but one of them is that early on in the film (as Cinderella’s beloved mother is on her death bed) she asks Cinderella to promise her she will always, “have courage and be kind.” Read more>>

Nearly every show that I have there is an awesome pole dancing studio here in Ft. Worth that always volunteers to do a segment in my show. The athletic ability of these ladies combined with sex appeal really adds some extra flare to the show. The owner, Sky, was my first vendor and entertainment act that has always had my best interest and has always given me words of encouragement. Read more>>

Rejection and Abandonment. I know it sounds strange, but those things were (are) the foundational fuel to push me into my purpose and empower my intense passion. We have been conditioned – and rightfully so – to expect and ‘depend’ on friends, family/relatives, and other systems to encourage, support, and invest in our dreams, visions, aspirations, or simply us, in general. Unfortunately, in this world, with imperfect, flawed, free willed humans, that is not often the case – and it wasn’t for me. Read more>>

One of the greatest extensions of kindness happened two days after my daughter was born. I hadn’t met her yet because of severe complications directly following the birth. I was in the ICU, barely capable of emotion or energy or anything resembling ‘health’. My nurse whose nickname was Big Red – because she was about 5 feet tall and had bright red, like Lucille Ball red, hair. I wasn’t supposed to leave the ICU because of whatever rules, and she made sure to break every single one of them so I could meet my daughter. Read more>>

I have always believed that if anyone has ever gone out of their way or went above and beyond for you, you should always pay it forward. One of the kindest things anyone has done for me, was when I was a kid. Maybe around 5 years old, I was playing outside in the front yard, when this pretty woman came up the walkway. She gave me a smile that warmed my heart. She and my mother talked for a moment. She then came and told me her name was Caity. She said she was taking me to a show. Read more>>

In 2010, I got an opportunity to come to America as an exchange student. I barely spoken English at that time, couldn’t even order food at a fast food restaurant. I arrived in Aberdeen, South Dakota, not knowing anyone. It was tough to go through daily life because I didn’t understand a thing, and didn’t have the English skill to even have a conversation with anyone. A couple of months later, while I was at the edge of giving up my exchange program and go home, all of sudden, everyone started to talk to me and tried to be my friend. Read more>>

This moment comes quickly and often to my mind when I’m just rolling around my house. I was a recent quadruple amputee due to a flesh-eating bacteria back in August of 2017 when I was finally released from the hospital. During this time my family and I were looking for new a home and ways to adapt to the house we are moving into so that it should be the easiest transition for me possible. Even though there are many ways to make the loss of all four limbs easy but this was a moment in time in which it made me feel that there was light at the end of the tunnel. Read more>>

My parents take the cake on this one. They always encouraged me in my creative pursuits, and never said a word of discouragement when as a child I would proclaim that I was going to be an artist when I grew up. I got discouragement in other areas of my life, especially in school, where visual art is looked upon as an unrealistic life path. But, I am so grateful that I never felt any of that from my parents. I often thank them for their support in this way. It’s funny, when I thank my mom for being so supportive of my dream of being an artist, she says, “well I wouldn’t have been if I didn’t think you could do it!” Thanks for believing in me :) Read more>>

The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me is have the courage and love to call me out on my blind spots. He was a dear friend in College, at a time that I was navigating and finding my way in the world. Instead of blindly supporting me, he challenged me when he would hear me make choices out of alignment with myself, he would invite me to self reflect, and he would shine a light in the places I wasn’t showing up as my best self.
