Kindness begets kindness. So, wanted to create a space to share and amplify stories of kindness with the hope that it inspires a chain reaction.

It’s hard to think of the single most kind thing anyone has ever done for me, but I’d say one of the most generous and extravagant moments of kindness in my life happened in high school, when a family friend gifted me a Breedlove Passport acoustic guitar (which I still use) for free. It was before I even knew how to play the instrument! I only played classical piano at that point in my life and was extremely shy and secretive about my musicianship, but Ron saw potential in me that I didn’t even see! Read more>>

In business, it’s not often that client’s become family. However I had the distinct pleasure and opportunity to befriend Pastor Gicele Gi-Gi Wray-Lindley and Dr. Omar Lindley. I was a recent college graduate and looking to start my career in commercial real estate. Fate would have it that I would cross paths with Pastor Gi-Gi at a political fundraiser in downtown Chicago. About 7 years ago a friend of mine, Derrek Sullivan, offered to mentor me in photography and video. Prior to this I had no experience but had always been interested in the process. He literally changed my life. His tutelage allowed me to learn and grow as an artist. Without his kindness, I would not be where I am today nor would I have the skillset. Read more>>

Being a mobile catering business owner I attend/ vend at a lot of events. At this particular event I had pretty much taken up residency so I’d gained a following. The customers (my family is what I call you after one visit) would come every weekend and would specifically look for my brand. On this day I had a customer come and it was her first time. She placed her order and mentioned that she would not share with her adult children. Well, after ordering and walking away with the order she returned and said my children at it all! Read more>>

The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me is tell me the truth and push me to greatness. I had a English teacher in 7th grade tell me, “look if you don’t start reading more you will never go far, start reading books and think how you would picture the characters. I believe you meant to go far but you need to be able to read.” She was honest with me but also believed in me and pushed me when I didn’t want to be pushed because I didn’t believe in myself. Because she showed kindness & encouraged me, I now do the same for others. Read more>>

The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me was actually from a stranger. It was the morning of my wedding, April 20, 2019. I was up early at a dunkin drive through grabbing some coffee and food. When I pulled up to the window to pay, the drive through worker said “the car in front of you paid for your order” . I was so shocked and grateful that someone decided to pay it forward on what was a very stressful day. It truly made me appreciate that there are genuine people who we do not know that will surprise you. So I kept the pay it forward going and paid for the person orders that was behind me. Read more>>

When I first started out as a composer, I had a lot of trouble getting performances of my own compositions. There is a lot you can learn about composing from studying, but it’s hard to hone the craft without working with real live musicians. In 2011 a composer already professionally successful in his career arranged for readings of new music by young composers. When I saw the opportunity, I reached out and asked to be involved and he excitedly accepted. Read more>>

When I opened my 1st restaurant in November, 2019 – I had put everything I had into it. Financially, time, etc. I was broke the day it opened having spent all my money building it out. 4 months later, COVID hit forcing me to shut down the dining room of my brand new restaurant, which still did not have so much as a sign on the building nor any other business next to us to help pull customers (was built in a new center). Within the past few months, two different women-owned businesses have invited me to sell my items in their stores! One in Brooklyn and the other in Jackson. As this was unsolicited on my part, it meant a lot to me. They liked my products and wanted to give me a place to sell my art, pillows, mugs, tote bags, and more. Read more>>

One of the kindest things that anyone has ever done for me was take a chance on me to help launch my career. It’s extremely hard to break into the commercial real estate word. People can smell the green on you from a mile away. Having a mentor/broker that took a chance one me, helped me navigate through the tough transactions, and just helping navigate through the commercial real estate side was so kind. It definitely helped me to get to where I am today. Read more>>
