Kindness begets kindness. So, wanted to create a space to share and amplify stories of kindness with the hope that it inspires a chain reaction.

My telephone calls were ignored and it was not like Mr. Bower to not return my calls. I mean, I had great news for him, the Blue Cross refund checks were going to add up to thousands of dollars. I finally found the time and saw his housekeeper’s face as she answered the door. My smile felt stupid and froze on my face. Something was wrong. I arrived in NYC 3 days before my 21st birthday in 1973. I had finally left my tiny island, Trinidad in the West Indies, and was itching to be able to attend university, I still had to figure out how to get accepted, and find the money, but those details were not going to stop me. I can’t narrow it down to one particular person, but I wouldn’t be where I am today without the kindness and support of my Alliance. When I first started my subscription service, it was those that supported me that encouraged me to take it further than even I could imagine. The alliance members’ eagerness to learn more about the world I created prompted so many world building discussions. They shared that the reason for the questions was a genuine love of hearing me talk about a world I was so passionate about. As they helped me cultivate my world through their dialog, Read more>>

To be quite honest, I have inspired an Indy musician out in Los Angeles so much with my off the beaten path editing style and my photography stance in making groups of people be heard: people of color, plus size females, people with physical and or developmental disabilities, and Indy creatives not from my home state in Arizona (even if I’m just photographing the band merch). In 2000 I lived in East Texas and had a thriving design business there. As it turns out, the area is a mecca for wealthy Dallasites who want get-a-way ranches and fishing and hunting homes. So, though my 5000 sq ft design studio and retail shop was in Athens, Texas, my clientele included the elite of Dallas, including George and Laura Bush even before he became governor. Once I worked with these Dallas clients on their get-a-way homes I often was invited to help them with their homes in Dallas. It was while I was at the home of one such client, newly married, who had just moved into the wonderful 2 story Tudor mansion in Highland Park that we were in the process of restoring that I recieved a very disturbing call. I believe one of the kindest things one human can do for another human is to provide opportunity. This can be done in so many different ways. When opportunity is provided, a person can then use their own energy, talent, and knowledge to be successful and in turn, provide opportunities for others. It is a beautiful chain reaction. While a hand out can help get someone through a rough patch, it is honest opportunity that makes the most impactful and life changing difference. Every time someone purchases a work of art from me, they are providing an opportunity for me to continue creating, continue providing for my family, continue using my success to help others. It’s been fifteen years this year since I opened my gym. We opened in 2007. Before opening my own gym, I was doing personal training at another small local building only getting paid pennies and nickels. Let’s just say I was struggling, behind on rent, and had no money in the bank account. It was a tough time. I had a client, which their name will remain anonymous, after a session one day ask me if I ever thought about opening my own gym. My immediate answer was no. At the time it hadn’t even crossed my mind, due to finances. They asked, “do you think 10K would do it”? I replied, “I’ve never had 10K, but I would make it work.” I just thought they were making conversation. Read more>>

This is a story of finally throwing my “I’m Ok” gut response out the window and finally stating “I’m not doing ok and I need some help” when I needed to. I said “I’m not ok” to my friend Marcie when we were changing back into our work clothes in the locker room after a noon yoga class. It was as if time stood still as I told Marcie of my struggles as a single Mom working too much and not being able to deal with the intense overwhelm and emotions I was feeling. She listened and then connected me with another friend of hers that had a similar journey to mine. Read more>>
