Our children are our future. Education is at the heart at developing their skills and abilities and yet year after year we hear about the degrading state of our educational system. Our nation has spent trillions of dollars on failed programs that research and experts had promised would work. Achievement gaps persist, performance declines are accelerating and so it is of paramount importance that we explore novel ideas and solutions. You might not agree with many or any of the ideas below, and we certainly are not endorsing policies – our hope is just to create a space where bright, dedicated folks from the community can share their ideas – so that we can all come together and better understand each others experiences, concerns and how we might move forward together to build a brighter future.

The education system should focus more on teaching students how to think versus focusing solely on getting students to retain information. I believe schools should implement courses to help students control their thoughts and stay focused on their aspirations in life. I genuinely believe this puts one on the right path to a fulfilling life and career. With mental health on the rise, early on, students should be taught how to block out negative thoughts. Today, education seems to be somewhat of a memory game. Read more>>

The educational system, particularly K-12 is in the middle of a large transition. Students are graduating from high school requiring a completely different set of skills than what was required when the current system was developed in the mid 1900s. Today students are entering a rapidly changing world with the likelihood of not only working for more than half a dozen different companies in their careers but also transitioning to several different industries. The topic of preparing our students for the future is very relevant for me as a mom of four kids: two of which just graduated high school this year, one that is finishing college next year, and another that is two years away from graduation! I believe the current educational system has a lot of room for improvement and could use more emphasis on life skills that are more tangible and applicable for students as they move into young adulthood. Learning how to navigate uncertainty, have difficult conversations with peers and friends, how to ask for a raise, build their credit history, manage basic finances, learn to invest, or pivot to a new career. Our education systems were designed during the industrialization in the 18th century, and have not adapted well to our changing needs for the current environment. As a parent of young (elementary) learner, I know that – I do not want to limit his imagination or put constraints on how he learns. I want to make learning enjoyable, as a life-long passion that serves to create a growth-mindset. Fortunately the recent pause has offered us an unprecedented opportunity to reimagine our education and reengage in a way that is most effective for the 21st Century . Since the pandemic there is been renewed focus and attention on improving learning outcomes and the timing is perfect. It’s time for us to invest to make a positive impact for the next generation… Read more>>

Tattooing isn’t so taboo anymore! This comes with a laundry list of pros and cons, as does with any thing being brought into the mainstream that was previously shunned and disrespected by the masses. Being tattooed is “trendy” and “cool” right now, which means everyone wants in to get their financial gain from it. There are so many different avenues to take when answering this, but I’ll stick with a very simple one. Corporate America is taking advantage of uninformed consumers by labeling skin products as “for tattoos” and putting a hefty price tag on it. Read more>>

I feel very strongly about the need for social emotional learning (SEL) in schools. I believe that SEL should be included in the curriculum of every school, at least once a week. Kids have the need and the right to learn how to cultivate inner joy, inner peace and harmony with others. This would not only increase their chances to lead a happier more successful life, but also will foster focused and peaceful minds, ready to learn everything else planned on the academic curriculum. Being More active and hands on with real manual things that we can bring into the real world to one day support and help our children & others rather than just dissecting a non-living animal . My mom always told me stories of when they had classes that gave them jobs and they would actually go to work or even the “gifted” children they get privileges to certain activities we simply didn’t so it left some left out of the fun or the knowing of what they learned and experienced . At Isis Commodity we are creating and learning the craft together . Read more>>

Good day, The education system in my opinion needs to be overhauled completely. The education conditioning people to group think and think like robots as opposed to individual thinking. Students are getting more of the non researched facts from tik tok more than picking up books. The things that are being taught are agenda based and not solution based. As I even look for employees, and interns I’m having trouble because no one has the computer skills or the writing skills to get the work done. Read more>>

There are many things that I would change about the educational system. It all starts with Elementary. If you think about it, from 1st grade to 12th grade, we are trained to be at school for 8 hours, like a full time job, with an hour lunch break. We are basically taught all of our lives to be employees. Not one class teaches us about credit, entrepreneurship, saving, investing, nothing! So if I were to change anything about the educational system, I’d start right there. Then, I’d increase the pay for everyone who works in the educational system. Read more>>

My dream would be to see the educational system shifting to a more inclusive one, in the sense of reaching all types of learning styles. Research has shown that all humans have many different types of intelligences, capabilities and interests, and not one person learns the exact same way as the other. Knowing that, we gear our program towards an individualized type of learning, basing our curriculum mainly in the Montessori philosophy. Read more>>
