Our children are our future. Education is at the heart at developing their skills and abilities and yet year after year we hear about the degrading state of our educational system. Our nation has spent trillions of dollars on failed programs that research and experts had promised would work. Achievement gaps persist, performance declines are accelerating and so it is of paramount importance that we explore novel ideas and solutions. You might not agree with many or any of the ideas below, and we certainly are not endorsing policies – our hope is just to create a space where bright, dedicated folks from the community can share their ideas – so that we can all come together and better understand each others experiences, concerns and how we might move forward together to build a brighter future.

Years ago, I found myself working at a private school in Los Angeles, CA. It was quite an experience for a public school kid from New York. I always knew there were private schools, but I never quite knew what they were for. Back then, everyone in my neighborhood went to school – that school, the one down the block. So being at an elite private school was as much anthropological field work as it was a teaching assignment. Read more>>

There is so much to say about this and I am not sure I will have enough time or space! Firstly the current educational system was created during the industrial revolution, approximately 100 years ago. So much has changed since then in so many facets of how we live our lives, how we think and what we’ve come to expect as a collective. More precisely, for the last decade the technology revolution has been upon us and we have witnessed a huge surge of change. Even more recently, with AI being more present in the way we show up and do business. Read more>>

Being that I was a college student less than a year ago, I definitely feel as if they do not prepare you for the real world. This is why I started learning about credit in the first place. I was so unfulfilled with college. I love learning so I took it on myself to learn new skills that will help me in the real world. The educational system should teach students more about financial literacy and what to do with their money when they get it. Read more>>

I think that we need to start doing more classes that prepare you for life outside of your childhood years. I remember coming up through school and take the prolife classes at our school and we learnt a little bit about all of that, but it wasn’t in depth. I would love to see more classes like that so the youth can be a little more prepared for the outside world. Read more>>

Being in the creative business, I believe that we are creative since birth. Parents and guardians should start encouraging their children’s creative skills very early on in life. I believe education is important, but not the one-sided systematic education that is in place today. There are some children that are born ready for certain things. And if not, it only takes instilling confidence in a child for them to find their niche. Read more>>

I would change what it cost for someone to go to college or a trade school. This should be free for anyone wanting to get a higher education or learn a trade. To prepare our youth for a more fulfilling life and career it needs to start in High School and then contiue through their education. They need to be placed into internships to learn about the various careers that are available to them an experince it first hand to help ensure thats what they want to do in life. Read more>>

One of the most outstanding truths about man is being created in God’s image! Within the educational system, we should elevate the value of books and reading. Encouraging a child to read, in those elementary range ages, opens up doors to traveling, exploring their gifts and talents, understanding the world around them and so much more. To further engage our children, group discussions should be had about how important reading is and the reasons why. Read more>>
