Our children are our future. Education is at the heart at developing their skills and abilities and yet year after year we hear about the degrading state of our educational system. Our nation has spent trillions of dollars on failed programs that research and experts had promised would work. Achievement gaps persist, performance declines are accelerating and so it is of paramount importance that we explore novel ideas and solutions. You might not agree with many or any of the ideas below, and we certainly are not endorsing policies – our hope is just to create a space where bright, dedicated folks from the community can share their ideas – so that we can all come together and better understand each others experiences, concerns and how we might move forward together to build a brighter future.

Colleges and Universities should spend more time focusing on teaching students about how to start their own businesses. These institutions mainly gear their teaching to those looking to apply at a larger company but neglect what you should do in the event no one is hiring. Read more>>

I chose this question because of its challenging nature in today’s times. I love challenges! As a mother of two successful students – an upcoming college graduate (Spring 2023) and an upcoming high school graduate (Spring 2023), I have always been keenly aware of the educational system, and it’s need for improvement. My mother was also a teacher before she retired and became a homemaker, so I was raised with an understanding of how important education is to a student. Read more>>

Higher education is a scam that consists of selling a dream funded by long term debt. The problem is two fold. The first issue is the cost; there are too many people competing for too few spots at colleges and universities. While the education system has undergone minor reform, it’s in need of a major overhaul in order to stay relevant to our ever-evolving society. Many of the topics students are learning in K thru 12 are concepts that are no longer needed in the real world or in the very least they’ll be outdated when the students graduate. Also, many key concepts that students should know ex: financial literacy, critical thinking skills, creativity, intentional use of tech, stress management & mental wellness etc. are not embraced or encouraged in public school curriculum. It’s incredibly rare to see an educational system that nourishes the soul of the student – and this has to change! The thing about “learning” is that learning is not absorbed, – and it’s certainly not utilized to create something new – if what we’ve “learned” isn’t connected to the unique wisdom that inspires our soul to create. I would put more emphasis on preparing students to make a living. Not everyone is suited for college studies, and many would most definitely benefit from skill training in fields such as plumbing, electrical, building, and so forth. Skills such as balancing a checkbook, investing in securities, and even cooking should be taught to both male and female students. Read more>>

Coarse on how to manage emotions. This would include recognizing them, allowing them, investigating, and nurturing them. Students would be taught the difference between our primitive brain, prefrontal cortex, and the limbic system so they can understand why humans behave the way they do. They would be provided tools and practices on how to not react to emotions. As well as learning how to push through negative or uncomfortable emotions to create the outcomes they desire. Read more>>
