Our children are our future. Education is at the heart at developing their skills and abilities and yet year after year we hear about the degrading state of our educational system. Our nation has spent trillions of dollars on failed programs that research and experts had promised would work. Achievement gaps persist, performance declines are accelerating and so it is of paramount importance that we explore novel ideas and solutions. You might not agree with many or any of the ideas below, and we certainly are not endorsing policies – our hope is just to create a space where bright, dedicated folks from the community can share their ideas – so that we can all come together and better understand each others experiences, concerns and how we might move forward together to build a brighter future.

I believe that there are multiple key factors lacking in our educational system. On a public level, our current educational system is not designed to promote the learning and demonstration of emotional intelligence & regulation, nor does it embrace different styles of learning. I understand why this is. Do stressed, overworked & underpaid educators as a whole truly have the capacity to cater to 20 different learning styles in a packed classroom? Read more>>

If I could, I would add meditation and mental health classes for every grade and every student. Your capacity as an individual for success relies on your ability to process the “good and bad” in life’s moments. How powerful one’ persons journey could be if they were equipped with the knowledge of their own individual gifts. Education has been changing rapidly, even over the past ten years that I’ve been in a classroom and working in educational spaces. The time to adapt was yesterday, but there is still time to help people learn valuable skills. One of the biggest changes I would like to see is a renewed focus on facilitating a love of learning and curiosity instead of focusing so closely on standardized testing scores. Read more>>

I think that mindset is starting change. Many people are learning to harness the power of the internet to monetize and propel their talents to new levels of exposure and revenue. Read more>>

I would change the way students are taught in schools. Instead of focusing solely on academics I would balance cultivating students’ talents. Too often education focuses on giving students information instead helping students figure out what they are good at and turning that into a profit. Education is a great foundation but if students do not feel like they have something of their own to bring to the table, it is difficult for them to be invested in their own education. Read more>>
