I have one of the coolest and cutest jobs ever. I open my email to an inbox of adorable dog and cat pictures every morning. I get to watch my favorite TV show New Girl for the 10th time while I paint. I get to work from home with very flexible hours. My customers are always incredibly nice to me. And yet I STILL fantasize about having a regular job every single day. I get lonely being the only person at my job and I wish I could share the responsibility and bounce ideas off of a friendly coworker. Read more>>

Being happy as an artist or creative has been something I’ve internally struggled with the past year or so. Towards the end of last year, I quit graphic design and agency life—drained our savings and travelled to Hawaii and Costa Rica. Both trips that cleansed me and started to restore me. I spent a lot of time reflecting on where I wanted to go and what I truly wanted to do. After these trips I took some time to figure out my next steps but then got pregnant. This took a lot of my mental and physical energy since I went through an ectopic pregnancy. Read more>>

Being a creative and working freelance is like choosing to be an entrepreneur unintentionally. As an entrepreneur you can sell a service and/or a product. As a creative you’re selling yourself as both the product and the service. So to answer the question….am I happier? Yes. Is it easy? Not at all. There are many times where I think about just giving up and applying for a full time cooperate job. However, one my resume doesn’t really reflect that anymore lol and two I could not see myself doing anything else. I find fulfillment in storytelling and collaborating with other creatives to make art. Despite every hardship. It’s all about sacrifices and calculated risks. What are you willing to do to get to your next level and how are you gonna get there? Read more>>

I am 100% happier as an artist! I love having creative freedom and I love making decisions that are best for me. Before committing to my own business, I spent 15 years in the corporate world, so I already know what it’s like to have a regular job. However, I still desire having more consistent work, and especially a more consistent income. The toughest part about being an artist is not knowing when the next job/commission will come in. I am extremely busy at times but I also have had my share of down time. Read more>>

Being an artist, to me, means creating something new and hopefully unique that hasn’t been done before. I’d say that’s the goal that most of us are chasing, at least. Letting a feeling, idea, or emotion drive you to create something that you are proud of can be one of the most gratifying experiences. It can also be a struggle too. There are times when you have the urge – or need – to write something new, yet everything you try isn’t working. Read more>>

I can honestly say that I know both worlds and I am super happy as an artist pursuing my passions. For many years I had a “regular” 9-5 job in the healthcare field. And for those years I was grateful for that position because it paid the bills and had rewarding aspects to it as well. But I don’t regret the decision to change career paths and pursue what I am passionate about- I was fortunate and blessed to be able to change course, and take my creativity to the next level. I absolutely love my work but I wasn’t always sure if it was going to be my career. I thought for a long that I needed a job that had benefits, I needed a degree to succeed and this kept me from my full potential. I was just an “ok” artist. I spent 10 years thinking this. I went to school for psychology and worked hard at fulfilling my dreams. Then I met my person (Philip) who helped build me up and let me be me. Read more>>

I am much happier with being a creative vs a 9-5 for sure. I’ve been a podcaster for 3 years and a content creator for 1 year. Starting out podcasting, I immediately fell in love because not only is it therapeutic being a storyteller but it reminds me of my childhood with my father who was a tour manager for Def Jam (in the 90s) and radio DJ in Atlanta (in the 2000s). No I’m not happy. Hollywood is blackballing me, no reason I should be in consideration for 3 NBA roles and come up short every time. Until further notice I have moved on to my rap/sports management endeavors. Read more>>
